This is all about where you should hike as a beginner, what you should wear hiking, the hiking essentials, and some fun lil tips that I would have found super helpful as a beginner.

I like that you focus on enjoying the outdoors and not on survival or performance. Good that you underline stay away from wearing cotton. I’m suffering inside when I see people hiking in cotton socks 😣 Thank you 🤩

    You have great advices 🙂
By the way, I love your jacket, where’s it from ?

Great advise. Just started up my YouTube. In my last video I gave some tips at the end on how to stay fit and get outdoors!
    Subbed!

if you’re going for a 1-4h walk, you barely need any of this. especially if you’re anywhere near civilisation/roads.

-unless it’s extremely cold or extremely warm, just wear normal clothes. i.e. a t-shirt & hoodie with any pants. take the hoodie off and roll your pants up if it’s warm…

_…your body won’t disintegrate if it rains a little. obviously if there’s risk for _*_really_*_ heavy rains bring any rain jacket/shoes._

-bring .5L water and 2 fruits in any backpack or shopping bag.

    have fun!

Hey it’s ur Crib Goch tag along Cameron, bag with waist strap is a good point speaking from bad experience 🤣
Hope you have recovered from excursion, it was a lot for my first hike but would do it million times over 😌
    Awesome vid 💪

great video, enjoyed watching it. I think the most important thing (which can not be repeated too much) is: while gear does matter and can make a big impact on how you are feeling, especially when starting out it does not have to be anything expensive. start small, do what you like and have fun.

The room you’re in looks really cool! Could you make room tour?

  8. @baywest on June 2, 2025 at 11:30 am

My US brain hearing you say you got 30 pound boots and thinking, "why the hell are her boots so heavy?"

  9. @CommV on June 2, 2025 at 11:35 am

Came to the channel via the skyrim video but have watched a load more videos and want to give actual hiking a go now!

  10. @brent_f on June 2, 2025 at 11:37 am

An alternative to a pack cover is a pack liner.

You can buy pack liners or just use a small garbage bag, a plastic shopping bag, or something more durable like a trash compactor bag inside your backpack.

some good points there . The amount of people i see leaving the car in the lakes in multiple layers at the begining of a hike . always start cold and add as you need . I also never do a hike without walking poles , saves the knees soo much . 😊

I use a bumbag as well as a day pack. I keep my phone, battery pack and leads, money/cards, keys, waterproof note pad and pencil, befree water filter, and head torch. These are needed quickly and are easy to get at without removing your backpack.

You can easily wax any piece of clothing. It’s really easy, and most punks in internet corners like tumblr or pinterest or insta will have a nice waxing tutorial (especially for jeans).
Edit: for lighter hikes and for storing some of the denser gear I also recommend leg bags. Yes. Leg bags. The thing with backpacks is that they put the weight on your back, and no matter how well the bag is adhering to your back or how light your gear is, having shit on your back will hinder you, your balance and your overall weight. Leg bags do not do that because they’re around your center of balance and are in your strongest part of the body.

    Great video.

Consider starting walks early, leaving plenty of time for any unforeseen difficulties.

If using a rain protection cover on pack make sure it comes with straps, so often those without blow away.

Shout out for the poncho, an extra layer of protection from the elements even if you have a good coat. Don’t be embarrassed to fix poncho at the waist with elastic as they can take some hammering in high winds.

  21. @finger351 on June 2, 2025 at 11:55 am

I’d add a map of the area and a compass, you cant rely on technology.
Sarah Connor will tell you how bad it can be.

  22. @Dacxx on June 2, 2025 at 11:55 am

I don’t know about hiking. I just walk out my back door, meander up muddy meadow paths and woodland trails for a few hours, keeping an eye out for ‘life’, say hello to every sheep, then find myself back where I started again. It seems to work for me!

  23. @cornflourr on June 2, 2025 at 11:56 am

Gal, do you have any good cool rain jacket recs? Mid-range in price. I stg all women rain jackets are so mumcore, and like slim fit. I really want a cool looser fit one with the cinched in waist vibe but just can’t seem to find any

ID on the jacket? Looks sick

  26. @Arcuris77 on June 2, 2025 at 12:04 pm

This is a video I definitely save for any people to get into! It is so personable, especially since most hiking youtubers are soooo gear eccentric and put hiking behind a paywall

  27. @diddlyempress on June 2, 2025 at 12:06 pm

I’d like to start hiking but am legitimately scared of cows. 😅 hopefully there’d be plenty to do without encountering a potential stampeding herd!

Mmmmmmm nom nom Nylon, that most tasty of fabrics 😅

  29. @theartistformerlyknownaspi7094 on June 2, 2025 at 12:10 pm

Breath of fresh air for outdoors community most videos of established content creator seem more like gatekeepers than wanting to encourage newbies.

  30. @WraithSharks on June 2, 2025 at 12:13 pm

I turned one of my hiking chairs into a toilet seat and attaching a collapsible bucket it worked pretty well lol

  31. @AngryDemonBowser on June 2, 2025 at 12:13 pm

Went on my first serious hike in October! Beautiful mountains in Japan that had really pretty foliage.
Most of what this video suggests was exactly what I had on me (i am watching this for my wife whom I am going to hike together with!)
If i could recommend a snack you can make, it would be a big chuncky chocolate chip cookie with some protein whey in it. It packs a lot of calories and by having less sugar but more protein whey, it makes it not as sweet. Bonus points for putting in walnuts, peanut butter chips and 80% cocoa chocolate!

  32. @midnightroadstudios on June 2, 2025 at 12:14 pm

I need to go walking more.

  33. @ervinslens on June 2, 2025 at 12:14 pm

So nicely elaborated, you put a lot of effort into this episode! Love it 👏👏

  34. @banyan55 on June 2, 2025 at 12:15 pm

I use GPX studio to find local public footpaths and make my own routes. You have to be careful as not all marked trails are well maintained. But I did find routes I would have never thought of despite living at the foot of the peak district my whole life.

  35. @broccolirob5085 on June 2, 2025 at 12:15 pm

Every pound on foot is like adding 5 on your back. The taller the sole on shoe causes more ankle roll. Shoe grip on wet rocks people dont talk about but its important. Sugar snacks work for a bit but dont fuel the body for long distance..

  36. @P6009D on June 2, 2025 at 12:20 pm

I don’t have a map and compass as a backup. I have a phone and GPS as a backup.
