it’s probably clear to you that I’m binging your content ๐Ÿ˜…but honestly, I am so happy I can learn from a MASTER, at my own pace.

I used to joke about becoming a bird photographer when I’m 60 yrs old ๐Ÿ˜‚ because it’s impossible for me to do it now (money and time)…….what a lie I told myself.
Thank you for helping me change my mentality. I do portraits so I’ve an A7C + 85mm f1.8 but I can rent nice 200mm+ lenses for under $70 and start my birding/wildlife adventure over 22 years ahead of schedule haha!!

    Thanks Simon. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿพ
    Subscribed.

Don’t forget to tell them you have about $20k in the camera and lens.

EF 400mm 5.6L worth it for wildlife?

Stumbled across your video after getting super into penguin photographers and field researchers. Now I live in the middle of the States so no penguins unfortunately, but since I was little my mom has become quite the experienced amateur photographer.

She introduced me to photography from a super early age so were both being inspired to pick up our cameras again! Mom does more potraits of people and buildings/ urban landscape, and I do lots of common neighboorhood plant/ garden and animal shots. So we both got a lot to learn from our wide interests too!

Are photo cameras going to turn into just very high quality video recorders eventually >_<

All your tips have really helped me so thanks. Especially that ISO Auto is fine when shooting wildlife which helped me so much rather then having change ISO on fly while environmental lighting changes

10:17 "Make sure you get the lens with the EF mount" I should have listened closer to when I first watched the video.. luckily I used MPB and I can return lol

  31. @theBiondinoF on August 13, 2025 at 2:13 pm

this video helped me a lot, I’m from Italy and I have a Sony ZV-E10 with a Tamron 70-300mm lens, I bought this camera and this lens for bird photos but I’m only at the start so I need to learn many things yet.

  33. @KienPham-q7k on August 13, 2025 at 2:13 pm

    The background music is perfect.

  34. @Topgun_Gamerz on August 13, 2025 at 2:13 pm

Just a small thing on getting close to mammals that most may already know. Wear Camo (UNLESS YOU ARE GOING OUT DURING RIFLE SEASON) and get scent killer spray, deodorant, and laundry soap.

  35. @ndtepokaksbdteoan on August 13, 2025 at 2:14 pm

    Super helpful tips.

  36. @MrBthames2000 on August 13, 2025 at 2:21 pm

Agree with almost everything except the teleconverter comment. The Sony 300mm f2.8 GM is great with a 2x tc

  37. @signature103 on August 13, 2025 at 2:21 pm

    Great tips.

One question: why 1.4x over the 2x teleconverter? Is it because you lose too much light (aperture) and the scene is too tight?

  38. @Robin37366 on August 13, 2025 at 2:22 pm

I really enjoy using Fuji APS-C for wildlife, donโ€™t feel the need to upgrade even, with a 150-600mm lens Iโ€™m getting effectively 225-900mm whichโ€™s pretty much covering any situation in wildlife while still staying under 2kg total

  39. @darrenferguson4175 on August 13, 2025 at 2:23 pm

Hi Simon was thinking on getting a bit of a budget lens thw sigma 150-600mm contemporary lens but i heard people say you gotta use the a isb dock for it for adjustments and some people say you don’t so was just wondering if you have any input on this ? Thanks love the work

  40. @notreallyjess21 on August 13, 2025 at 2:24 pm

    THanks for the information

This is so good. Thanks for simple, positive and uncomplicated tips.

    I started recently with birding.
    My gear is the

    Canon Eos r10
Canon RF 100-400 IS USM LENS

I’m super keen to take some fun shots.
    Even if they’re average.

Do you rate the lens hoods and lens polarised filters?

This was really helpful, thank you

  49. @jondowd11 on August 13, 2025 at 2:34 pm

I wish MPB didn’t hate Alaskans. Their shipping here sucks. At least Keh doesn’t screw Alaskans over with ridiculous shipping rates. I still try to buy from Stewart’s (our local camera shop) whenever I can. Support your local shops!

  50. @Crimsonyte21 on August 13, 2025 at 2:36 pm

What an honest and helpful video. Thank you a bunch Simon!
