I hope soon to receive P1000, first idea was to take random photos. But later realised I can list birds in area. Really interesting 😊

Speaking of ebird… I’m going to an island this week where there are no recorded bird sightings on ebird. I will probably be the first!

Many don’t realise that when you put a list of birds publicly using eBird, you are supplying the list to poachers who will go through that to find the exact bird they want to capture. In countries where enforcement is scarce, we tend to lose our species from indiscriminate reporting that way. No, we birders here don’t expose our wild birds this way.

I decided to get into birding an hour ago. Unfortunately, where I live there isn’t a lot of green and I don’t think there’s much to see there. Maybe pigeons.

I am in a similar situation, having been interested in birds all my life but never really focused on writing down what I saw even though I would go ID a lot of things – so I was able to dig through photos and add Surf Scoter from Alaska, Blue and Gold Macaw from Florida and Laughing Gull from the bahamas, plus a Townsend’s Warbler from my yard last Oct, but tough luck for all the other birds from those places plus mexico and canada and I have no idea when I’ll get to go back! Everyone who even marginally enjoys bird viewing and identifying should consider recording their sightings for sure

  23. @jaxchambers7652 on June 19, 2025 at 12:16 pm

Wish eBird would put pic by the name of the bird. ( Visual learner)

2:46. I’ve been in that situation myself. Went to South Africa on holiday, saw a good few birds that I’m only now trying to ID. I have only started to get into birdwatching in the last year, I probably missed so many amazing birds

    great ideas

  42. @GrampiansParadise on June 19, 2025 at 12:36 pm

Thank you for another great video. I particularly liked the tip about learning the birds through social media. It’s a really accessible way. I grow up with my dad being right into the native Australian birds, so I cannot remember a time where I did not know many of the species. I had no idea of just how daunting that it can be to start to learn the birds, until I went to USA for a holiday and had no idea about the birds that I was seeing, let alone their life stiles. Thinking of this experience I can see just how useful the tips you talk about would be.
For those that are visiting our camping ground we have printed pictorial list that we give to any of our guest who are interested. To date there are over 100 Australian bird species on on our Grampians Paradise list, of which there are around 55 pictured (all taken by me and my dad over the last 20 years). 47. @shkhamd on June 19, 2025 at 12:40 pm

"Go out with as many as different birders possible"… 😭😭😭
As a new south east michigan resident, don’t even know anyone to go out on birding with.
Wish I was in my childhood when making friends was easy as just going out and hangout with other kids 😭😭
