Thank you so much for this simple exercise. I am 78, used to be in decent shape; but am becoming unsteady. So I will cautiously practice this simple but seemingly effective technique.
That part at 2:45 Instant goosebumps
Thank you!!! 🤗 My Dad is 93 and only uses a cane when we go out of the house but he does shuffle his feet because he IS afraid to fall. I will start him on this regimen today. 🫶🏼
Thanks for this Brief AND useful instruction.
Thank you so much.
Doug, I greatly appreciate your posting this video. I’m looking forward to gaining more balance with this exercise. Thank you for making it so easy to understand your instructions. 🙂
Does this apply to people with Parkinson’s?😊
67 here.. i can do this exsercise all day long. I rise one leg and i anchor my raised foot above and on my standing knee, and i can hold that position well over a minute. I gues if i tried harder i could hold it even longer. And i can do this on both legs.
First, I have to say a huge thank you to the wonderful people who run this page. God bless you all for giving us this space to learn and grow! Thanks to you, I’m practicing these exercises I’ve learned here and sharing them in my spiritual therapy sessions with others who, like me, are embracing their golden years. Seeing their eyes light up? Oh, it warms my heart like nothing else! I pray for each of you who run this page; may God Almighty grant you strength, health, and peace! Today I came across a video on YouTube that touched my soul. It was about a woman who had difficulty even walking, but through exercise, she regained her life and clung to hope. It’s a story that hits you right in the heart, filled with courage and grace. As someone who walks the path of faith—myself a nun—I can tell you that stories like these remind us to keep striving, to pray, and to never give up. I thought it might inspire others like us, so I found the link to share if you’d like: https://youtu.be/x0dQVuMYQw0?si=9A734hDCfs04BCtD. To all my seniors, let’s keep moving forward, even if it’s just one small step at a time. Stories like these show us that with faith and a little stubborn determination, we can achieve wonders. Take care, and may God give you strength and joy! Thank you so much to those who made these inspiring videos. My prayers are with you, and I hope your work shines!
I am 78 and I use a rowing machine and the ones with handles
Has this man dyed his hair? That puts me off its out of balance with his face.
❤❤
Thank you, I did this at physical therapy and it really helped, so glad to find this. It reminded me of benefits it brought me…physically and mentally. ❤
Thank you for taking only 2-3 minutes to explain.
Thanks, I’m going to try it. I also think I’m having some inner ear problems I’m getting checked out all so. I’ll also try the exercises.
Tai chi: weight shifting, standing on one leg
Don’t say "single best" until you have tried all the others. You can say that your method is good. But to say that it is the best is sheer arrogance.
I’m 80 and just started this last week and am up to 70 count on both legs. Got a friend started on it…and then…discovered your video, confirming it is a very good exercise for balance. Maybe she and I will plan a trip to my hometown and run up the steps of the Art Museum like Rocky…with music 🙂 The other great way to stay in shape is get a Golden Retriever and also volunteer to work with horses and special needs kids for hippo therapy!!
Has the effectiveness of this balance exercise ever been researched in a controlled study? If so, please post a link.
Thank you ! I am going to try this !
Just had my hip replacement surgery last week. This excercise is just what I needed, once I get my balance back, walking will be so much easier! Thank you for this video, you probably saved my life!
The reason why I like this video is instead of 8,000 "Balance exercises YOU MUT DO BEFORE BREAKFAST OR YOU’LL DIE," this is ONE thing. Also, it’s a pleasure to see someone with some snow on the roof talking about this vs. 20 something being perky about it.
Great video, short to the point
Thank you.XX
Phenomenal, short, to the point, valuable information. Thanks
I’ll Try👍
It was really interesting that weakness is not the cause of people having a balance problem. If it’s all about the ‘balance challenge’, what are some other simple exercises people could try once they get good at this one?
Thanx 4 the brevity
O M G I have been looking for this. I knew there would be someone who had the real deal figured out! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
Unable to stand on one leg for over 2-3 minutes. Why?
I have terrible vertigo from Menniers disease. Spinning even if I’m not moving.

What my P. T.taught me very well explained thanks, some of these people are just plain dangerous , their crazy made up exercises
OK! Gotta give it a–prolonged–try. Thanks.
Thanks for not complicating things, you were clear went straight to the point.
I took a screenshot, it goes to Photos where I’ll see it often.
Impressed that you said…program which is exactly what I tell others. I’m not having trouble getting in your car, I’m programming, where, which, how my hand should go.
Bring legs back to board. Too far back with the knees, makes a painful plop to the seat, back up to sit down.
I have a stationary walker to use in the shower, I place it and follow it in. Coming out, it goes ahead of me. I step out to take a few steps to the second walker, this one has front wheel, now, on to the bedroom.
We are so fortunate to have these informational videos. It’s something to talk about with others, we can learn and teach.
Thank you, Doug.
Did Emma. Did NOT work
thank you
Thanks
Thank you.
I’ve been doing this for a few months now and can do 1.5 minutes every time on each leg. I have found that a strong core is a must. I can’t stress enough how a strong core helps with balance and can keep you upright if you stumble
Like alot
Please make some videos for knee arthritis as well. Thankyou
Straight to the point, not long-winded and tedious like so many videos!
