How ro make a good server in 2 simple steps:
    – take a PC
    – use it as a server

  3. @UnrealWaifuTV on April 21, 2025 at 2:08 am

I read the article and it says ONLY for the NASes from 2025 onwards… All the NASes from 2024 inward will remain the same.

  4. @roberttran1114 on April 21, 2025 at 2:09 am

And now we witness the steep drop in new synology system sales

  5. @ZackNehring on April 21, 2025 at 2:11 am

Sounds like a pain in the NAS.

    Should i buy a 3070 ti at 340€ for 1440p gaming?

  7. @PhoenixGamerx_x on April 21, 2025 at 2:13 am

This is a straight up Apple move

  9. @kattphloxworthych on April 21, 2025 at 2:13 am

I decided to go with TrueNAS SCALE. It is very much vendor-agnostic, so none of this Synology bit of bullshit I could just as done without it.

The only other machine I have only has one "fancy-shmancy" setup only in the form of ECC ram via an Xeon-based setup. Worth it!

They couldn’t fully support some hardware they didn’t produce is a legit reason.

Next is going to be subscriptions. No thanks

  13. @edms3656 on April 21, 2025 at 2:17 am

a workaround has been found, use an older synology server to prep the harddrive then put it in the newer case, it will recognize it as a proper "synology "hdd and give you all the features.

Now winrar is the only goated company as of now😭😭

  15. @natewalker4666 on April 21, 2025 at 2:19 am

A yes proprietary software and hardware locking you out of being able to do whatever you want with a product you own. Sounds like another company with the logo of a certain fruit.

  16. @patti4832 on April 21, 2025 at 2:23 am

UNAS from Ubiquiti is also quite good if you want an alternative

  17. @sladernom on April 21, 2025 at 2:24 am

The move they made makes me think they have someone that is trimming down their internal testing/compatibility department and this is the result

  26. @Il-FEROX-lI on April 21, 2025 at 2:36 am

I have that same battery backup. It’s hit or miss whether or not it fails over correctly, but the battery holds a charge 😂

  28. @tudtar3922 on April 21, 2025 at 2:38 am

If I buy a Snology can I install Windows on it?

  29. @tandaowens1484 on April 21, 2025 at 2:40 am

I have an old computer i don’t usually use anymore and it has over a terabyte of storage space left, so i used an app called Tailscale to share drives over network when the pc is running. As the cherry on top, i decided to add the dvd drive as a shared drive so it should be possible to watch movies when you’re a mile away but the latency isn’t the greatest. Im also surprised that it works between different operating systems. 3rd party apps can get the job done. Now that’s called a homemade NAS.

  30. @w4pz859 on April 21, 2025 at 2:40 am

    Another proprietary bs

  31. @TwoDpads on April 21, 2025 at 2:43 am

  32. @n_money1019 on April 21, 2025 at 2:44 am

Just use an old PC with proxmox setup!! 🙂

  33. @42ckev on April 21, 2025 at 2:45 am

That’s scummy and ill avoid using them because of this very reason.

  34. @pierrehenriot2480 on April 21, 2025 at 2:45 am

    Bye, Synology !

  35. @MisterSixty on April 21, 2025 at 2:47 am

Home grown for those up to the challenge. Bought an old Lenovo Xeon P520 and used HDDs a year ago; TrueNas Scale and no problems at all except with my learning curve for TrueNas! 😂

I’ve also used Asustor without incident.

    Synology has gone 100% 💲bonkers💲.

  36. @marschbefehl2665 on April 21, 2025 at 2:47 am

  39. @Squirrel4Gir on April 21, 2025 at 2:54 am

    Lost my business.

  40. @ChairmanMeow1 on April 21, 2025 at 2:54 am

You can buy old TiVos from pawn shops for like literally $5. Take the drives out and make your own ghetto NAS.

  41. @AlAltavi on April 21, 2025 at 2:56 am

Correct me if my information is outdated or wrong. But from what I know you can’t put any HDD in a NAS and be 100% sure it will work.

You can be sure if your HDDs are on the support list. Otherwise, you can only hope.

  42. @vampjoseph on April 21, 2025 at 2:57 am

so don’t get a synology nas and learn linux command line on your own. got it.

  43. @Novouto on April 21, 2025 at 2:57 am

As customers, we need to be INTOLERANT to these types of moves from companies. We know where it all ends up. We need to be puritanical.

  45. @dvgamer1623 on April 21, 2025 at 2:59 am

    I actually have a big question, i normally record a lot of videos in my main gaming pc and the videos can be up to 200gb even thought i can edit those on it i havea macbook pro that can edit even faster while i keep gaming on the desktop since vr games and heavy ones can be hard while using davinci, my big question is: is there any HDD or SSD enclosures or docks that can be active on the same disk? For example it can download to a 20tb HDD and after that i can just edit it without passing files soo both have acess to the same disk at the same time? I really can find any solutions and passing a 200 gb video can take a while since the best i got is a external ssd that can at max transfer 300 mb/s pls help me on this Zach ;-;

    Should i buy a 3070 ti at 340€ for 1440p gaming?

  47. @VRIceblast on April 21, 2025 at 3:01 am

I really don’t see much difference between installing a bunch of hd’s in your pc, and sharing the drives with the rest of your network, and a server. Sounds like they are doing the exact same thing, but you have to spend a lot more money for it. Just never made any sense to me.

  48. @Kredo800 on April 21, 2025 at 3:04 am

No wish to get familiar with linux? Want to plug&play? Don’t complain on greediness of "big techs".

  50. @DJRaffa1000 on April 21, 2025 at 3:05 am

The best thing is, they dont even make drives. They buy from WD and others and then just rebrand them
