To many gadgets ruin the camping experience… everything you bring is a choir, something you need to pack store and maintain while on your trip. If you don’t have it now you don’t need it.

Where do all of you camping/rv people come up with all your money? Seems like most are young and have all the high dollar supplies. $180.00 for the jacket – smh. I have to buy all my stuff from a resale/thriftshop. Oh well – more power to ‘ya!

*Car camping items. Not hiking camping items.

  7. @renatal1972 on July 18, 2025 at 12:33 pm

I grew up with my dad making me pick up cow Pattie’s to build the fire, used aluminum feild to wrap potatoes in, bury in the fire to cook.

  9. @oz7245 on July 18, 2025 at 12:36 pm

If cooking on a campfire there is no need for a meat thermometer. for Ice if you must take it save money by freezing water in plastic water bottles.

A pocket bellow…..now I know why someone ripped the am antennae off my car.

Pro tip: An added benefit of red lights for camping is they don’t attract bugs. Get the light you need at night, not the flying creatures.

The only regret I have about bug zappers: green lacewings are beneficial insects and they are unfortunately side collateral.

Thats not breakfast thats desert, and also only if you go with a car you can carry cast iron stuff. Also who cooks while camping? you go for 3-4 days, you have instant soup, instant noodles and instant whatever, the rest will go bad unless you use them first day. no amount of cooling will make up for a 40+ degree weather. now if its late summer or autumn and its around 20 degrees you can go around for about 2 days with a decent cooler.

Extra serria tin cups. ( use instead of bowl) i have a 2 set of tableware plates bowls, and plastic cups( threw out) got 4 cups from Walmart for $5each. Any typ of one pot meal put in cupto eat. And another for soup, another for drink, ect i find i use the extra plate to make dinner, especially if i need a bread board. I dont have to wash the plate untill after i eat as i have a clean 2ed plate to eat off of.
( i also buy most of my food out of regular grocery store rather than buying expensive freeze dried meals)

  18. @jworth7203 on July 18, 2025 at 12:43 pm

A meat thermometer 🤦🏻‍♀️ Why did I never think of that?!? Good grief! Thanks!

  19. @SraTica on July 18, 2025 at 12:44 pm

My favorite item is my trip tips camping toilet

  20. @jackvoss5841 on July 18, 2025 at 12:45 pm

I take a lot less cooking type items to camp than you do. Cooking is OK if you don’t mind getting on the road or river 2-3 hours late,or will be in the same place for several days.

I make my own granola bars at home. A bar of granola for brunch, washed down with tea from a thermos – that I filled the night before – lasts until supper time. I light a fire once a day – around supper time. I heat water for some tea, and to mix with some freeze dried refried beans. The beans go on a tortilla, add some minced fresh onion, and VOILA! My tortillas are carried inside a frisbee. After supper, a squirt of waterless hand cleaner onto the frisbee, rub it around, and wipe clean with a paper towel. Dishes are done, VOILA!

For me, camp time is more valuable than culinary accomplishments. KISS.

What kind of tent do you have?

  22. @paulmckenna5224 on July 18, 2025 at 12:47 pm

Cooler Shock packs being "colder than ice" doesn’t mean anything. Ice can be 30 degrees F or -28 degrees F, or even much colder. These cooler shock packs "maintain" 18 degrees, but only until they don’t! (10-12 hours in a cooler) Also, once these cooler shock packs are warmed up, you have dead weight and volume to lug around. You can just pour out the water if you really wanted to (but don’t…water retains cold much longer than air). Cooler Shock may be fine for a day at the beach, but for extended periods, get ice and replenish it when needed.

I do like the little bellows, though. I’m gonna ditch my giant, old fashioned pump and get one of these tiny guys!

Can you post a link for your water bottle press filter thingie please?

  27. @lordrichard8184 on July 18, 2025 at 12:54 pm

The pie irons seem like a great idea. Been looking for something fun and easy to take camping with the cub scouts and I feel like those pie irons would be great to do little pizza pockets or hot sandwiches when it’s cold out

  28. @NathanThompsonBlueEyes on July 18, 2025 at 12:57 pm

    Oh, Car camping. I see.

  29. @PowerWidow on July 18, 2025 at 12:58 pm

Red is the known stimulating color–raises heart rate. Blue does the opposite.

  30. @roytee3127 on July 18, 2025 at 12:59 pm

There’s nothing more disappointing than an inflatable mattress/pad that deflates during the night. Using a powered pump to re-inflate at 3AM helps a little but it’s no fun.
We finally sprang for cots and they make a world of difference.

  31. @Sephirothmmd on July 18, 2025 at 1:00 pm

    And this is called camping?

  32. @Fronzel.Neekburm on July 18, 2025 at 1:00 pm

Colder than ice???? WTF.. Why have I got the phrase "but its got electrolytes " running through my head at the moment.

  33. @MikeT-yt4ql on July 18, 2025 at 1:01 pm

These “Glamping” videos might get some city dwellers out and into nature and the woods maybe. Hope so. Some may actually learn how to CAMP.

Just found your channel! Love my ex ped mat, especially in Canada, where the ground is COLD! Also , love your dad and his enthusiasm.

  37. @MsLookinup on July 18, 2025 at 1:05 pm

I find the Grayl EXTREMELY difficult to use. There are so many times that I cannot pull the inner filter out to refill with water which makes it useless. I have to have my husband or son do it so I cannot use it when on my own. Does anyone else have this problem and is there a solution that works for you?

  38. @ClaudeBohls on July 18, 2025 at 1:07 pm

    Glamping essential!

White girls always mention their "boyfriend"

  40. @jessedesens5845 on July 18, 2025 at 1:08 pm

Oh, got a good one for this comment. I have always had a wok… and at one point I used a throwing hatchet as a cooking utensil. For a bellows, I think I still have an old aluminum Slurpee straw that just gave its way at the end to make the perfect “troll pole”
So an item I wish I had sooner is the Sea-to-Summit Detour. It’s a legitimate kitchen knife by a standard I had not ever anticipated that I was even qualified for. Anyway, that combined with those folding plate bowl things make the easiest meal prep imaginable.
I’ve traveled with an MSR Pocket Stove for longer than a decade by now with a wok I picked up in 2013 from the woods at a Rainbow Gathering…
The Detour is the camp kitchen knife I had in mind to own for longer than currently about only a year.
