This is what my old, misinformed boomer father or grampa would carry? When was this posted 1990? This is obviously a troll.

You dont need a massive multitool. Also don’t bother with solar panel battery packs the extra weight is not worth it. A regular battery pack will give you way more charge for the weight.

  11. @Watcher413 on April 27, 2025 at 2:46 am

This is the worst packed bags I’ve seen and one of the worst backpacks for a short day hike. I feel embarrassed for anyone who thought this was good advice

This was a really good video! I pretty much carry all of that in my pack, but I’ve customized it and broken it down differently to save weight.

That post is from someone that really doesn’t understand what could be practical. Why is a multi tool included?
A good waterproof should always be included.
A light of some type is sensible
    A basic pocket knife
A poncho can be rigged as a shelter
Sufficient food and water (& maybe a filter if there are water sources).
    A warm mid layer
Map & compass as long as you know how to use them
    A whistle
A means to start a fire
A sit mat to insulate you from the ground can be useful
A battery pack for your phone / light.
    Sun protection, esp a hat/sunglasses.
A small First aid kit and know how to use.

That compass is useless. Just get a basic suunto baseplate compass for 10-15 dollars for navigation. It will actually save your life if you have to use that paper map.

  25. @heather333 on April 27, 2025 at 3:18 am

    A WHOLE TOILET ROLL! 😂😂😂

  26. @Taffer1000 on April 27, 2025 at 3:18 am

This is what I’d suggest. Ditch the power bank and put your phone on airplane mood to save engergy, put the first aid kit in a zip lock bag. Ditch the multi tool. Toilet paper? Um why?? Get a USB chargeable headlamp. Much easier. Put the food in zip lock bags. Put the sun screen in a smaller bottle. Can leave the matches behind and just use hand sanitizer to ignite fires.
