Please pick a flexi leash that is appropriate for your dog’s size. The one you have is for dogs up to 11 kg. And remember to never have an untrained dog in a flexi leash. Have a great day! ๐Ÿ˜€ <3

    Cool accent ๐Ÿ™‚

  7. @svampebob007 on July 25, 2025 at 1:05 pm

Aha I knew I’ve heard this accent before! Estonia, now I can’t stop hearing my brothers wife talking.
Anyway I’m still considering a backpack for my dog, no as much for food or water, but for first aid for both of us, just in case.

while I also got her boots she just doesn’t like wearing them and I don’t know how to get her used to them if she never wants to put them on ๐Ÿ™

HEY EVERYONE!!!!!!!!!!! I just wanna chime in and give a warning I almost learned the hard way.

One time I took my dog on just a long a hike out in the country and I was going to do a little fishing.

It was hot, and my dog also likes to dip into the water.

There is a large aqua duct canal that has fairly steep sides and itโ€™s deep, fast moving.

I was letting her dip just up high along the side but she started pulling to get deeper, the way she was twisting around and once her neck was wet, and the collar, it started coming off her dang head.

Sheโ€™s never swam before that time, so with the canal currents and not knowing if she would swim, now her slipping deeper I just climbed half in and grabbed her by the scruff and pulled her stubborn ass out.

I normally only use the harness when we hike, especially mountains and such.

So just please make sure your dogs collar is not too tight but wonโ€™t slip of if they get stubborn or it gets wet.

If your on cliff sides, or around other hazards, make certain the links, the clasps, the links on the leash, everything is super solid.

    Harness is always recommended.

It just takes that one slip up to lose your pup.

They are worth the extra solid gear.

I can’t use a leash with my dog because when I put them on the way she freaks out and then when he’s off leash he is like perfect will just heal with me so I can’t use the leash

  12. @KiwiBushcraftAndSurvival on July 25, 2025 at 1:08 pm

Excellent tips, thank you. And I hope you really enjoyed your through hike in New Zealand ๐Ÿ™‚

  13. @ryanmalone2681 on July 25, 2025 at 1:08 pm

Thatโ€™s the worst luring a harness, which drives pulling in dogs, to deal with the discomfort of the pulling, which is the source of the problem, is not very clever. Just get your dog to stop pulling. Takes no time at all.

Few notes about my experience with dog on hikes. I have 2kg yorkie (Hugo) which is an avid hiker, actually it never happened that he would be more tired than me and he can cover more distance than any average human. Although I have leash, he learned NOT TO PULL so only a basic collar is needed. I use leash only if there is some other dog in the vicinity or if we walk on a busy road etc. Hugo is trained to walk close to my foot on request and if I let him run around I can call him with special whistle and he obeys 100%.
I made a special bag which I can use to carry him (didn’t need it though) and he can also sleep in it then I will wrap also my down vest around him. If it is really cold then he will gladly sleep inside my sleeping bag at my feet and we can warm each other which is quite cosy. Hugo is not barking too much but he can signal any movement around tent during the night.
Funny thing is when I pack for hike he will climb over my backpack as if he would insist that no way he would be left behind.

  15. @Raevenswood on July 25, 2025 at 1:11 pm

I have never use a leash 100% of the time when hiking with my dog but it is important to still bring it in case some situation arises like a visit from a bear or mountain lion for example where you would want to keep the dog close. For after dark I have a head lamp that I strap around my dogs neck and put it on the red light setting so I can always see him and keep him close. For dog boots I would recommend getting them from site that specializes hunting dog supplies. in the US there is a site called gun dog supply that has all of that kind of stuff. You want the boots that have the teflon loop that the velcro strap goes through and then wraps back around onto its self. Also there is a great product called Mushers Secret that dog mushing teams use to condition the dogs pads and it works quite well. Thanks for the videos I’m enjoying your channel.

Hallo Maiu, thank you for these useful tips. My Irish Terrier wears her little ruffwear pack with pride when we go hiking, it looks terribly cute ๐Ÿ™‚ Now I’m thinking that a raincoat would be a good investment, I want to go hiking in Scotland next summer. Do you have any experience on combining the pack and the raincoat? I wonder if it will easily destroy the waterproof material. I’d be grateful for any tips. Greetings from Germany ๐Ÿ™‚

I highly recommend a double H harness. It goes around their neck, under their chest, around the ribs, down the back, and around the belly. Iโ€™ve picked up my dog by the harness to get her out of creeks or crevices sheโ€™s gotten herself stuck in, and the weight was distributed evenly throughout her entire body

In regards to sleeping bag. It’s very easy to make one on your own.

There’s an amateur tutorial on YouTube from a Brit guy. To sum up, you need a human bag, a scissor, a needle and non-natural thread. You can use natural thread, like whool or cotton, if you have to, but keep in mind that it will degrade over time.

What you want to do is create a tail that you fold over, in order to keep her bag shut and no cold air can get in through the cut end.
    1. Turn the sleeping bag inside out. The throw away part is going to be the bottom end of the bag.
    2. Now you’ll create a tail that you’ll later fold over to keep the bag insulated. Sow the first line 4 inches/10 cm before the part you want to cut away.
    3. Cut it and remove the 4 inches/10 cm of insulated stuffing from the tail.
    4. Fold the empty tail over first sowed line.
    5. Stitch a second line to secure the empty tail with the bag to keep it secure and shut.

Link to the Camp Life bushcraftย video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U8W7Em-S8DQ

PS: A dirty sleeping bag insulate less than a clean bag. My watch can record temperature, so at night I place my watch in her bag at the coldest spot, to keep en eye on her warmth.
The sleeping bag stuff sack is going to be half full, so you can use the extra space to stuff it with an inflatable air mattress for dogs.

My dog runs away when his rain jacket comes out. Lol. Fir warmth, I sm trying a kids insulated poncho that can be slipped onto my dog or opened up as a blanket. Fir a pad he seems to like my Gossamer Gear Thinlight but it is not very durable.

I use a trailer rope thin lightweight 4m long attached to harness with a knot at the other end. My dog is a westie small and fast. This helps when recall is not working.i just need to catch the rope!

  37. @LonerBoi88883 on July 25, 2025 at 1:38 pm

Dog poo is bio degradable. Annoying to see people pick up the poo then leave it. Better off just not picking it up at all if you’re going to do that.

Can anyone advise harness with pouches for smaller dogs (lakeland terrier & Staffordshire terrier sizes) I’ve looked through so many..I can’t afford some of these ridiculously priced things..some great ideas, they’re mother & daughter but I do have an older sleepingbag which I may look into making into 2 smaller bags or even use it as a mattress! Great video thankyou.

i also always have a dog first aid kit to! Another thing i use is the dog socks! I also use a dog coat when its cold in the daytime and and rain jacket for her for when its wet. But i dont need a dog sleeping bag cause i tried it and she didnt sleep in it and she would rath go under the blankets with me and lay right next to me! I always bring her sleeping bag and a extra blanket for her just in case but she usually chooses not to use it!
