Just for info. There is no such thing as breathable and waterproof … even Gore-Tex cant do both, once its wet it doesn’t bread anymore, that’s just the way it is… fabric that can do both at same time don’t exist as far as I know. So next time you have to chose between Gore-Tex or any other breathable/ waterproof system, just pick the cheapest, they pretty much work the same.

Why not just buy a wool coat?

  3. @Rando-user-zm1fx on July 31, 2025 at 1:09 pm

    More of this

  4. @JohnClarkW on July 31, 2025 at 1:13 pm

33,000 makes a pit-zip rain jacket under $70. I have the under $30 version without the zips, and it works great over a cheap zip up fleece that I use. They have the best fold in collar hoods I have seen.

U do the most interesting videos, now I am addicted to seeing your contend when I make breaks during my study for the exames 🤣
I love the dedication and efford put into the video, you can see it by how clearly you approach the subject and how well put your ideas are, the editing is very good too and what sells me the most is your outdoor filming, amazing camera quality and camera angles.
Where I live I dont have snow so for me its amazing to see those backgrounds-like florest filled with snow, its stunningly beautiful.
And there is more, most of these videos you put out are compressed right under 10 minutes withouth skipping or leaving out anything, you truly deserve more appreciation on this platform.

  6. @knightingale9833 on July 31, 2025 at 1:15 pm

I bought a CAT Parka jacket for $80 and it’s fantastic. It’s water-resistant not fully waterproof, but it’s so warm that I’ve gone out in under 20° with nothing but a T-shirt under it and I was warm enough

  7. @iambarks2814 on July 31, 2025 at 1:16 pm

So why do you you buy the expensive Arcteryx stuff if much cheaper brands can perform well enough?

  8. @ignacionogalesaisa831 on July 31, 2025 at 1:18 pm

In this video he says he uses expensive stuff for his trips. And in the next one he says brands think you are stupid, and cheap clothes are made the same as expensive. Its only me or there is something wrong here?

  9. @J4Y84 on July 31, 2025 at 1:20 pm

Ppl Who want to Stand out Buy Branded Expensive Things 👑 …I saw a Pair of Shoes at Amazon Yesterday!… But Saw a Tommy Hilfiger. The other Day! 🤔…something is Missing! 💙💭♦️

  10. @takenbychaunce991 on July 31, 2025 at 1:20 pm

You cannot scientifically state that a “rain jacket” will work just as well as a GORE-TEX branded jacket when talking about keeping moisture out. It’s not correct. Don’t generalize when sharing information. That can dramatically shift someone’s opinion on the matter for the rest of their gear life.
Then retail employees who are properly trained, look like a bunch of assholes when they try to sell you something that’s MUCH better for you

  11. @TheOriginalJadolph on July 31, 2025 at 1:20 pm

The difference in high end brands is the longevity. I’ve done rugged hiking with a bunch of cheap walmart gear and it works. But its heavier, not as comfortable or adjustable, and the seams are never great. Straps and stuff rip or fall of pretty easily. So after 3 or 4 hikes with the gear it looks pretty beat down.

Polyester is not a close substitute for merino.

Your channel is an example of an area of YouTube that I try to entirely avoid. Essentially a modern version of a classic late night TV advertising channel "QVC". And of course you will Shadow ban this comment. Welcome to 2024. 😂

Excellent informative video. Another smart shopper tip: It’s hit or miss but I do find all these layers at stores like Ross or TJMAXX. Just bought 3 pairs of NF mittens-two that were goretex, and a pair of women’s NF 3L snowboard pants for just over $100 total.

  20. @drewm7071 on July 31, 2025 at 1:29 pm

Buy the most effective brand that FITS YOU THE BEST. A good fit will keep you warmer and more comfortable.

  21. @billheckman5937 on July 31, 2025 at 1:29 pm

  24. @misterfunnybones on July 31, 2025 at 1:31 pm

Mesh base layers are all the rage now. Another option is to just change your based layer at the summit & downclimb in a dry layer, but it’s more to carry. Spare socks are a good idea as well if you’re wet hiking into the frozen alpine.

  25. @JonSnuh on July 31, 2025 at 1:32 pm

Why does this man hate the goat, arcteryx? Don’t buy it if you can’t afford it..

  26. @ccaatoanything on July 31, 2025 at 1:33 pm

If I had a technology that allowed you to feel warm in -30 degrees Celsius while wearing a raincoat (e.g. GORE-TEX) and keep it breathable and breathable and the technology came with 2000upf and was completely harmless to the human body, and had a cooling effect in high temperature environments, and more importantly the technology was used in a fabric that only cost 2$/meter, would you be willing to buy it?

  27. @augustfreij9162 on July 31, 2025 at 1:33 pm

Never use a synthetic base layer if you will get wet. It’s fine until it gets really wet and then you get real cold. Baselayers should be wool.

  28. @michaeld2613 on July 31, 2025 at 1:34 pm

YES!!! The video for the rest of us! Appreciate you!

  29. @gdude7397 on July 31, 2025 at 1:35 pm

The Eddie Bauer Cloud Cap 2.0 Stretch is an excellent windproof shell with pit zips. Bought mine for $79 – love it!

  30. @TommyNitro on July 31, 2025 at 1:37 pm

Decathlon has really good prices on their down jackets.

  31. @madMyke1984 on July 31, 2025 at 1:37 pm

Wool stays warm even when wet.

  32. @beerhunter272 on July 31, 2025 at 1:38 pm

I found a puffy jacket at Walmart for $18.00! It’s not as fancy as the high priced brands, but it’s twice as thick. I just laugh at those gear snobs who spend hundreds of dollars on top brands when you can achieve the same results for a fraction of the cost. K.I.S.S.!

  33. @VinyZikss on July 31, 2025 at 1:45 pm

hey you should do the same for other items such as boots, tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, etc

i LOVED arcteryx…til they started ripping and coming undone after like a year of owning them…or the very FIRST time i rode my mountain bike and my pants ripped SO easily…never spending money like that on clothes again.

  36. @Daddio69er4p on July 31, 2025 at 1:48 pm

People should understand most people need to have name brands but it’s not necessary

  37. @1012cmcalister on July 31, 2025 at 1:49 pm

Regarding poly vs wool base layers; i understand fabric weight is very important, but even if poly wicks sweat better, i find wool to regulate temp better and reduces sweating.

  38. @1lapmagic on July 31, 2025 at 1:49 pm

Trying to research coats today for an excursion into the snow. It seems like there is a religion out of buying these $1000 Arcteryx coats and stuff now. Ridiculous.

  39. @robbobstone on July 31, 2025 at 1:51 pm

Thrift. Thrift. Thrift. I found an Arc’teryx Atom LT hoody for $7 at a thrift store

What he does not talk about is the fit of the jacket.

  44. @jackforsyte on July 31, 2025 at 1:54 pm

So what I got from this is "I use a 300$ jacket but you can go ahead and use a 35$ one" 😂

    Excellent…. 😀

  46. @cryptomatt3835 on July 31, 2025 at 1:58 pm

Ide love your opinion on the 33,000ft packable rain jacket!

  47. @davideyre6449 on July 31, 2025 at 1:58 pm

You should try softshell in place of fleece and mid layer.

  48. @ron5082 on July 31, 2025 at 2:00 pm

So if it’s the same. Why don’t you use these alternatives. Already Hmmmm Sounds like some alternative motive bs.

  49. @djordjedjolic7641 on July 31, 2025 at 2:00 pm

Great video. In my country, people that live in the mountains and colder regions walk in plain wool sweaters, jeans and leather jackets, paired with jeans, wool socks and rubber boots. Last time I was hiking, I saw couple of guys, 50/60 year olds, choping wood in the forest. They come, get jacket down, loose the heavy sweater, and start working. When done, they remove shirt, put the sweater directly on the torso, leather jacket over it and go home. Highlanders… In meantime I was changing my Peak performance outer shell, to remove my inner shell… And still feel pretty tired and cold 🥶
