Signs of Summer on the Shale Ridge Trail
Signs of Summer on the Shale Ridge Trail
Hiking the Shale Ridge Trail-
On May 27, 2017 Randi and I hiked what author William Sullivan calls one of the wildest trails in the Cascade foothills, the Shale Ridge trail off of Aufderheide Road 19. This trail follows the North Fork Middle Fork Willamette River all the way up to Waldo Lake. This trail is home to some of the largest spruce and fir trees that we have ever seen on a hike. We had to cross many creeks, and finally the trail dead ended us into what looked like a large flooded area with many down trees and lots of water. Ultimately we lost the trail and weren’t able to cross the North Fork Middle Fork Willamette River anyway due to the water levels being so high this spring. We saw our first mosquitoes of the hiking season, and we experienced our first 80 degree hiking day. All-in-all, it was a splendid hike to start off the summer hiking season!

My vote for mosquito repellent is picardin.
I have tried a lot of different mosquito repellent, none of them ever really worked. Deet is the best and all the studies say it is safe for us. Your videos are awesome keep up the good work
My favorite natural mosquito repellent is to bring a friend that they like more than me lol. What I don’t like about DEET is that it dissolves plastics which means most of my gear so I use Sawyers picaridin.
6:14 would make a nice post card
Natural mosquito repellant, keep swatting them, hahaha
Great video It does seem to be the wildest trail in the cascade footies. Beautemous! I again see why you love hiking. Because you "see" everything and more importantly you appreciate everything in nature! Love that you can get up close and personal to scat! You’re a heck of a woman!
I found your channel yesterday and have been watching all your previous vids. Great content looking forward to more.
Fun video, you always show interest in the surroundings instead of speeding along. Makes viewing so much more enjoyable. Question answer, Deep Woods Off for decades. Spray clothes not skin.
Great hike! Question, if you don’t mind answering, how many days a week do you work out? You look very toned and strong. Thank you for sharing!
