The forward stroke in sea kayaking is usually thought of as something separate from the bracing stroke that you would use to avoid a capsize. I would like to invite you to consider that when you learn to paddle in the way that I show above, the two strokes become much more integrated and versatile. Not only do you end up with a smoother, faster and more powerful forward stroke, but having the bracing power right there to stop a capsize, in most cases before you even get out of balance, give you a lot of confidence where paddling in rough water.

If you think you don’t need that bracing power consider that if you paddle on the ocean or even on a large lake, you will likely as some point need it to stay safe.

Sea kayaking is often taught without considering the environment you paddle in. The sea kayak forward stroke is no different than the river kayak forward stroke as an example. But the environment is completely different. You need different kayaking tools, and different paddling techniques. Whereas the river may demand that you react with a hard brace, on the sea a quick brace will be more effective than one which requires more strength. In most cases you can let the wave give you support if you know how to borrow it’s energy.

The Inuit evolved the kayak and the Greenland paddle evolved with it. A lot of people will tell you that they just didn’t know better, but I can assure you after using it exclusively for over 18 years, the Greenland paddle is no accident. It it designed to give you maximum agility on the water. To help you stay upright in the roughest of seas. To help you be as quiet and efficient as you can be. Basically it makes sea kayaking much more enjoyable for those of us who like travel with finesse.

If you would like to learn more about using the Greenland paddle and develop a forward stroke that gives you stability on the water as you paddle, sign up below for the free mini course I made for you.

I have a surprise bonus for you when you do.
