Pro travel photography tips: How I take my best images on vacation

In this week’s tutorial I discuss my top tips for taking better travel photography, whether you’re a pro or a beginner. From the ideas I keep in mind when looking for shots, how to find the best photo locations, to how to travel light and stay nimble, these are tips I use myself when taking travel imagery across the world.

And while I may not exclusively do travel professionally, my destination shots have appeared in various magazines, websites and high profile travel books. The advice I give here has helped me take the images that sell.

It is of course always worth checking the countries laws regarding street photography. Some countries you are not allowed to show peoples faces most importantly enjoy your holiday. I love doing street photography in different places the images are memories I treasure from our road trips in our campervan.

The last tip was the best one. Take your time! On my trips we’re intent on seeing us much as we can, sometimes the hidden areas of a popular place pass us by. Good suggestions here 👍

    Hi Andrew
I really liked the shot of the couple talking at the window with blurred people walking past. A great story of what the modern world like.
    Thanks for your videos.

Not so much a favourite pic, but I loved the soft tonal qualities across quite a few of the pictures. Not sure if it was the light coming off the similarly coloured buildings, or the softness of a 1.8 lens. Did you use a preset on the warm toned shots?
    I think I’ll dig my 50mm back out 😊
