Painting & Sketching Workshops 2020 – Lewis Noble
I hold painting & sketching workshops throughout the year based in my studio and at other parts of the UK. This video should give you an idea of the kind of thing we do.
There’s lots of drawing and painting outside followed by studio work. I like to work in collage to find interesting and less obvious compositions to work into studio paintings.

Third in my new RIVERS series. Looking for something new in the familiar!

My new project focusing on the rivers near my home in #Ashbourne #Derbyshire. I’m not sure how long I’ll be working on this theme but it’ll be interesting to see how it develops.

Working with mixed media using a variety of different paints. I work rapidly but build up the paintings in layers to make sketches that can be referenced in studio paintings.
Lewis Noble has lived and worked in Derbyshire since 1996. His focus lies in the physical and emotional impact of the landscape on the senses and the effect this experience has on us.
His paintings are not snapshots or photographic frozen moments but through repeated layering and eroding of the painted surface, they contain all of the time it takes to make them.
The result is a body of work that speaks to the heart of what it means to be part of the environment.

This might seem very random, but what size sketchbooks are you using to save your collages? Also, when you decide to mount or frame a collage, do you keep it attached to the sketch paper sheet? Thanks.
Not trying to see everything at once, not being obliged to draw everything – really helpful. I still get drawn into this trap, but I think the requirement to do many sketches is a discipline that will help me sidestep it. Thanks.
