A short cable ferry ride across the Potomac will land you in Maryland’s Montgomery County. You can get right back on the river in a kayak if the water is calling to you, or partake in many other adventures like rock climbing in Carderock (the oldest climbing area in the eastern US), ziplining and scrambling in the tree course (the largest of its kind in all 50 states) at Adventure Park, or catching some air at the South Germantown bike park.

If you’re looking to go a bit mellower, you can bike along the historic C&O canal, grab some tasty treats at Butler’s Orchard, or smell the flowers at Brookside Gardens. There are about a thousand restaurants in the county, so you’re not likely to go hungry when the time comes!
