What is the Merrell shoe in this? It doesn’t mention them in the “gear in this video” section. Thanks.

  2. @meganprogress6333 on May 14, 2025 at 10:29 am

My rain/wind protection is a rain poncho that has grommets on the bottom so it can double as a shelter in an emergency. That’s my “space blanket” solution. I never go into the woods without that, a warm layer, matches, food, and some kind of water filter. I’ve actually fit all that stuff in a trail running vest.

  3. @orcajesus6621 on May 14, 2025 at 10:29 am

Personal recommendation is possibly bear spray

  4. @YanethSere on May 14, 2025 at 10:29 am

I still love my LV reverse monogram COPYMAXS clutch! It’s versatile, fits a variety of items, and is definitely a workhorse! I think seeing it everywhere (like the LV speedy) is proof that it’s already a classic.

On my essentials list is always passes/permits and money. Most people don’t include these on checklist. Sunscreen causes more problems than benefits unless in high alpine situations. You always where proper clothing, why block the best source of vitamin D and, well sunlight

  6. @busted2boot on May 14, 2025 at 10:33 am

Go with a poncho. It takes the place of a raincoat, pack cover and emergency shelter.

  7. @patrickdicerbo7524 on May 14, 2025 at 10:33 am

Why not a simple lite weight tarp and bank line??

  8. @nickm9370 on May 14, 2025 at 10:37 am

I personally always carry a pretty decent first aid kit, whether day hiking or going overnight. It isn’t just me that I take it for – over the years I have had to use it for other people who were clearly ill-equipped for their hike. Not necessarily saying that they would have died without it, but it has helped a few people get out of a rather tight spot, so to speak. And one day, it might be me. Might be a pain to always pack it, but when it is needed, oh boy is it needed.

  9. @ryanbeer5262 on May 14, 2025 at 10:38 am

I almost always carry 2 liters of water, my packs only going to get lighter as the day goes on. I’m definitely one of those space blanket fans, they don’t take up much room & dont really way anything. An Ace bandage, never know when you might role an ankle.

I carry a combination of the ten essentials and the ten c’s of survival. Whether I’m walking to the outhouse or to the moon.

  12. @dugie5246 on May 14, 2025 at 10:43 am

I added a umbrella to my pack. Nothing big. Can be used to keep sun off, rain ,etc. And turn upside down and collect water I’d rainy. I’ve even secured to a bush and built a small fire

  13. @CampfireNite on May 14, 2025 at 10:43 am

    whars with the stupid thumbnail?

  14. @jimbort_de_breces on May 14, 2025 at 10:43 am

A whistle for effective signaling for help. Yelling takes a lot of energy and one may be too weak or injured to be heard. Also a whistle can be heard at greater distances

  15. @seanwang2501 on May 14, 2025 at 10:44 am

I do the day hiking more often, is the 20 liter backpack sufficient?

  16. @winstonsmith3690 on May 14, 2025 at 10:45 am

    Nice looking knife.

  17. @maxoblivion on May 14, 2025 at 10:46 am

If having to spend the night in the wilderness could kill you, a day hiker should be prepared to spend the night. If you aren’t prepared to do that, you’re an idiot. Also, you should carry a Personal Locator Beacon (PLB) like Garmin InReach, especially if you’re hiking solo. If you get into trouble and need Search and Rescue, the PLB will show them exactly where you are so they don’t have to risk their lives trying to figure out where you are.

Great choices you made in your gear. The mystery ranch coulee 20 is amazing. Probably the best pack on the market of that size. And that badger sunscreen is great too. I tell everyone about it. It works better than any chemical sunscreen I’ve tried, and it just uses non nano zinc, so no chemicals getting into your bloodstream.

  19. @joshr805 on May 14, 2025 at 10:47 am

wool socks are amazing i had no idea how much a difference just socks make

  20. @davidcontreras9540 on May 14, 2025 at 10:48 am

I have idea how many times I’ve gone in day hikes in the past 46 years (56, hiking pretty constantly since I was 10. Was a Cub Scout, Boy Scout, etc). Only a few years ago I started taking a space blanket in my pack every time I went out. Never needed it. Until one day, while hiking with a group, I decided to stay behind with two girls and a guy (first-timers) because I noticed they were descending pretty slow, being careful not to fall. Also, the group separated by quite a bit. You know when you’re so worried about something, that it happens? Well, one of the girls twisted her ankle pretty bad. It was a mountainous hike and we were may 15 minutes into the hike down, hence, mid to late afternoon. With no cellphone reception, I decided to instruct the guy and other girl to continue down the trail and get help. The injured girl and I stayed behind, waiting. Help didn’t arrive until around 10 pm, way past sunset. That space blanket came in very handy in keeping her warm. (I made s small fire and the reason was two-fold: reflect heat onto us and to aid the ‘rescuers’ find us). So, I strongly suggest carrying one. You could get them for about a dollar or two and hopefully you’ll never need it.

Mystery ranch was bought out by YETI

  23. @KDrive8 on May 14, 2025 at 10:54 am

Nice video. I prefer lighter boots with ankle support. I have rolled my ankle a couple of times hiking and would have fared less well with hiking shoes which had no ankle support.

  24. @jasonsims6273 on May 14, 2025 at 10:55 am

Dude’s got more shoes than my wife! 😂. Just kidding with ya man! Great video!

  25. @Op3rate on May 14, 2025 at 10:55 am

Maybe I’m unusual but I bring these in my pack for any day hike even little 1 milers:
    Extra water
    Water filter system
    Snacks
    Electrolytes
    Small Fire starting kit
    Whistle
    Emergency bivvy/space blanket
    Small first aid kit
    Large pocket knife
Some form of light or headlamp

All this (minus water) weighs about 6lbs + the bag.

Way too many weird stories out there to not cover your basics if you did get stuck overnight somehow (unlikely I know).

  26. @matthewsnyder4053 on May 14, 2025 at 10:57 am

Great video! Iʻd add a fire kit and cordage…thatʻs just me. Keep up the videos!

  27. @15halerobert on May 14, 2025 at 10:57 am

I use an Osprey hikelite 26. That way I can satisfy my paranoia and carry extra "just in case" gear

  28. @luannproctor672 on May 14, 2025 at 10:59 am

Dude, I just gave up my road bicycle because all of a sudden cars and exhaust all of it no thanks.. so I started hiking and I’m in love with it I just wish I’d started earlier😂🎉🎉🎉

  29. @KatrinaNorman-hu3wy on May 14, 2025 at 10:59 am

Lots of expansion occurring energetically and physically in my upper Chakras. I lost my job recently due to the Contract ending. My last day at work, I was so sick from my neck up. The next day was much worse. The throat Chakra, wow, hurt like hell. All about my voice and more and I finally worked through it. After that it moved to my lower Chakras and visiting the toilet was not fun. That was short lived thank God! After all of it was completed, I now feel like I am this new being feeling lighter, not dense, feeling more open to what is next for me. Let’s Go! 🔥🔥

  30. @CyberBeep_kenshi on May 14, 2025 at 11:00 am

new to this, but the 2 things that seem to miss from most medkits are tick removers (i always carry a creditcard version in my wallet) and and afterbyte pen. ( helps with insect bites from bees, wasps etc ). Another thought is reflective clothing, like the vests in cars. if you fet lost, you’re easier to find.

    cheers

  31. @antine1279 on May 14, 2025 at 11:01 am

I agree, but would also add: tissue or toilet paper and hand sanitizer or similar. Trowel is probably not a bad idea either 😊

  32. @JV-dx5uv on May 14, 2025 at 11:03 am

Thank you! Do you think 26 liter is okay with 2 small kids?

Possibly with a small backpack for my wife

  33. @ronaldrose7593 on May 14, 2025 at 11:03 am

Hello 👋 my outdoors friend, thank you for sharing this informative video. You’re set for just about any emergency. Stay safe out there. 😮

Great list, thank you! Just want to add Flint Steel Pro Fire Starter. Got mine recently from Amazon
(azengear brand if I’m not mistaken) and not regret it at all.

Great video as usual! Helpful tips and confirmations. Thanks so much for making it.

    No pistola?

  38. @harryhthenorwegian476 on May 14, 2025 at 11:09 am

Hi…. According to your videos, you don’t need a backpack or a tent when hiking or backpacking. The best thing is to hike without a tent or a backpack, right? You are no backpacker, and you know your’e not

  39. @alexwilliams6022 on May 14, 2025 at 11:09 am

You don’t know you need a survival bag until you need it. I needed one and didn’t have one luckily made it through the night and now never leave for a hike without one. Good list though mate 👍🏼

  40. @Swamp_Lad on May 14, 2025 at 11:12 am

Used to be avid alpine hiker and then didn’t do it for years. Went out not to long ago on a small peak, with a local and made all classic mistakes: I trusted the person knew the way; I did not even know the height of the mountain nor duration and distance. Result: we set of way passed midday and arrived up at the peak shortly before dark. Best part of it all: I had head lights, extra phone battery pack, hat, gloves you name it, all in the car. 😂 we made it down using the phone flash lights but navigating was hard as they don’t shine far and trail markings were hard to find. It was a really good hike, all went well, but moral of the story, take at least the essentials with you as you can easily have someone in your group have a small accident and you would not want to get cold, lost when dark or cold catches up with you

  41. @PwnageFury on May 14, 2025 at 11:17 am

This is a great list. I just did a short 2 mile loop in a local refuge and still brought – water, jacket, bandaids, my phone and a bar. Years ago a good friend who fell and broke her ankle really badly just walking her dog near home. She had not brought her cell phone and had to crawl out of the wooded area to flag down a passing car for help. A trip does not need to be long or far for things to go sideways.

  42. @jakecolvin3167 on May 14, 2025 at 11:18 am

I sort of think a space blanket is the ultimate Day hike kit. The thing with the Day hike is you think you’re out for just the day. Backpacking you have all the stuff to survive for at night. With day hiking, what if it turns into an overnight hike in an emergency?…. Space blanket might save your life….. Never ever used it. Always bring it and feel better because I do

  43. @CampfireNite on May 14, 2025 at 11:19 am

    whats with the stupid thumbnail?

  44. @JonathanHolsenbeck-p5w on May 14, 2025 at 11:20 am

i’d bring a set of lightweight long underwear in case I get wet and cold. a rain suit is necessary and an extra set of clothes including socks and regular underwear would be good too. Yeah, add a space blanket too.

  45. @johnorourke7484 on May 14, 2025 at 11:22 am

  47. @gcruishank9663 on May 14, 2025 at 11:24 am

Lighter! Garmin InReach mini, at least a small bivy, flare, first aid.

I love sugars and hiking ❤

  49. @Rod.P.C on May 14, 2025 at 11:25 am

I’d just add a whistle. Other than that, my pack is just like yours, including a camera.

  50. @Okkotto38 on May 14, 2025 at 11:25 am

Best day hiking essentials and advices video inhere! And I’ve watched a lot 🙂
The only things I’d add is a spare pairs of socks and a lace.
