In this video, I go through my ultralight gear list that I use for hiking and fastpacking. My baseweight is 3.1kg / 6.8lb and I am able to fit it all in a 22 litre running pack.

Any tutorial for the DIY tarp?

  2. @spagbolracing on June 3, 2025 at 11:04 am

Hey man, I’m from Chch. Been watching your videos for a while has been making me want to get out on my first solo adventure. For reference I’ve done overnight Mt Somers, part of the Abel Tasman track, also climbed Mt Herbert a couple times, had no issues. I’m mid 20s and pretty fit. Can you recommend me a good 2/3 day trip to try in arthur’s pass for my first time? I was thinking the Edward Hawdon or Mingha Deception.

good arrangement for the light packing for the trail hiking

  5. @sMorE33 on June 3, 2025 at 11:08 am

    Nice!

  7. @hupo on June 3, 2025 at 11:08 am

When you cut the 6 panels how much did you take off the width?

  8. @TimSavage-t1c on June 3, 2025 at 11:08 am

Really useful video man, thanks. Which temperature rating is your Sea to Summit bag? I notice the model you use has several options on their website. I attempted a fastpack last weekend (I live in the Austrian alps) with a bag rated for 13C and unfortunately the temperature dropped to 6C and I was miserable all night!

Awesome bro. Video real well done!

    love it <3
    dream loadout for sure

  12. @Laodage23 on June 3, 2025 at 11:12 am

Great Video! What sort of temperature range (or maybe NZ territories and seasons) would you be ok with (safe) for this set of gear choice?

  13. @vincentkrause7097 on June 3, 2025 at 11:14 am

Hope youre ankle has finally recovered! Looks like you had some ligament issues or twistet ankle?

  14. @GhostKing3_ on June 3, 2025 at 11:16 am

    This looks miserable to use

  15. @AndyOnTheMountain on June 3, 2025 at 11:17 am

Great set up dude! I think you’ve motivated me to do a fast packing trip soon. I also use that pack and love it. Your tarp looks nice – tarps in my opinion are the way to go. They can handle just about anything. Do you carry a Garmin InReach or something similar?

    Cheers

Hope you enjoy this one! Not a video I normally make but I really wanted to share my kit with you.

I’m not a camper as you know Zeb… but I’m really impressed with the the stuff you find to make your experiences lighter and better…. great job.
Glad they don’t have wings or you’d fly next! 🤭 but you really walk so fast anyways it’s like you have wings!
That kit looks great for a single user heading out.
Cheers Zeb….promoting what works for you and any others👍👌

  24. @personal.YouTube.channel on June 3, 2025 at 11:28 am

So what do you use for a cover? You have a tarp ? What about colder temperatures ? What about food when you’re on a multi day hike. I’M CONFUSED ABOUT THE STUFF YOU LEFT OUT !
Is this a day pack or what ? ….

  25. @amalielaursen1280 on June 3, 2025 at 11:28 am

Wow. That is a cool setup. Mostly because one can feel your expirience while you speak.
You almost cant make it lighter. I can only tink of toothpastepills and gossamer gear thinlight sleeping pad.

  26. @absolution222 on June 3, 2025 at 11:30 am

    Zeb you legend!!

  27. @FlexFormulaFitness on June 3, 2025 at 11:31 am

    Link for these items brother?

  28. @kaspersergej on June 3, 2025 at 11:33 am

I admire that you can sleep on this half-mat. I‘m a side sleeper and on the hunt for the most comfy sleeping pad 😂

  29. @nadinekunz4492 on June 3, 2025 at 11:34 am

3.1kg is insane! I couldn’t do without a cooker as I find even summers in NZ kinda cold and want some warm food. Also food in general is a problem as I always want to take too much 😂 Thanks for a great video, will check out your other ones

  30. @cameronfedde1545 on June 3, 2025 at 11:40 am

Really dialed in, well done! I’ll put my pack under my feet with my torso length pad. You ever had issues with Weka (or Kea?) while using your shelter? I have a floorless shelter as well, but it’s a single pole pyramid so I guess I feel a little more protected!

Does the BD22 keep everything low bounce when running? I like the adjustability of underarm lacing in a vest, but having pocket space there is also really nice. It’s getting warmer here in NZ, hope to get out on the trails soon! 🙂

  31. @richarddoesstuff1 on June 3, 2025 at 11:41 am

excellent fair weather setup for trails that you can buy food on every day. Fast and light. If a storm comes in it could get a little rough without the tent tho.

  32. @anselmocat on June 3, 2025 at 11:44 am

Very nice. What’s the orange sun hoody you have? Been looking for one in that colour! 🤣

  33. @patrickschlauch6638 on June 3, 2025 at 11:44 am

Nice and very light setup! Did you consider the Sixmoons Design Gatewood Cape / Tent for better protection? It’s not much added weight to your tarp. If you would double use it as a poncho and spare the rain jacket it’s even lighter.

  34. @damienballatore on June 3, 2025 at 11:44 am

Awesome video! Any advice or list of what you eat in 4 days ?

  35. @dennyrulos7370 on June 3, 2025 at 11:45 am

    Diabolical sleep setup ;D respect!

  36. @thisisjogon on June 3, 2025 at 11:45 am

Enjoyed this. Thank you for sharing.

  37. @Vargarslet on June 3, 2025 at 11:45 am

I seriously doubt that you get any quality sleep with that gear. But if it works for you, that’s great.

  38. @Budguy98 on June 3, 2025 at 11:47 am

    what size sir?

  39. @TalesFromAbroad-SJ on June 3, 2025 at 11:48 am

Impressive ultralight setup! 🏕 Fitting everything into a 22-litre running pack with a 3.1kg base weight is seriously next-level. It’s clear you’ve put a lot of thought into fine-tuning your gear, and I’m definitely picking up some tips for my own hikes. Thanks for sharing your loadout – looking forward to more of your adventures and gear insights! 🙌

  41. @NotASheep100 on June 3, 2025 at 11:49 am

Brilliant…my standard waterproof jacket an trousers weigh that much 😅
    Thanks for sharing…

  42. @hupo on June 3, 2025 at 11:49 am

what size is your sea to summit event compression bag

  43. @utopiaisover on June 3, 2025 at 11:50 am

To me somehow the ul hiking community reminds me a lot the anorexic community. Always in search for an even lighter setup and new gear. Price you pay is a lot of money, questionable food and sleep, and no towel to dry yourself after a shower. Ah and sometimes you feel cold.
But i’m truly happy for you if that’s the way you’re enjoying your trips the most

  44. @ysh258 on June 3, 2025 at 11:55 am

    가벼운게 최고야

  45. @enviousscarab2762 on June 3, 2025 at 11:58 am

Amazing video. For those that cant afford expensive tent or poles ive seen that paira outdoors does good

  46. @mercedaddy3862 on June 3, 2025 at 12:00 pm

Dude, when you said you’re only cold soaking for food prep, ya lost me. You would have done better only bringing granola bars

  47. @javi___ on June 3, 2025 at 12:00 pm

That toothbrush and paste looks heavy.
    jk, great kit!

  48. @theblackneon5396 on June 3, 2025 at 12:01 pm

I’d add sea to summit ultrasil tarp poncho. Compact and can save a butt.

  49. @capedmarauder on June 3, 2025 at 12:02 pm

So many cool things 🙂 I keep trying to reduce my weight but each time I run into a problem, I end up increasing a bit again. I wish I could be comfortable with such a short mat! I cut mine down and I just couldn’t sleep well. Also, nice work on the tarp! Greetings from Switzerland.

Do you have any suggestions for compressing these gears in this tiny backpack 😂
