I’ve spent the last six months searching Amazon for backpacking gear that would work for people who want to go on real backpacking trips, who want to trust their gear, without spending a lot of money. I have made three different videos documenting the gear I’ve put to the test, each time trying to improve the quality of the gear. It all started with a simple idea: most backpackers are not interested in spending a small fortune on good backpacking gear. I’ve heard from many people who are frustrated that most YouTubers, myself included, only review super expensive gear. So I gave myself a challenge, to scour Amazon to find a quality backpacking set up, tent, backpack, sleeping bag, mattress, stove, cookpot, headlamp, and more, all for under $500 dollars.
This video highlights the gear that has been the best.

Am I the only one thinking that he could just bend the wire on the rhino backpack?

The Featherstone Backpacking Tent Lightweight…Still out of stock 😕😕(May 2025)

  3. @joshakers1 on June 16, 2025 at 11:30 am

Gearing up for a long walk and found this entertaining and helpful. I already have everything i think ill need. The thing that caught me by surprise was the weight your average pack. Im currently day two into a little vetting experiment and my pack weighs 25lbs ….. No food and im like damn this weighs a ton. I just turned 42 and feelin every second of it right now so thanks for the motivation.

  4. @orestiskaramanos1756 on June 16, 2025 at 11:34 am

You have to try the CAMP minima 2 sl tent! At this prices range and weight i find it unbeatable. Maybe shorter than others but can stand some serious wind. Hasn’t let me down so far. Check it out please, I would love to hear your opinion about it

  5. @zachboatwright1167 on June 16, 2025 at 11:34 am

I feel like you should really put them to use before you review them. Cuz to me they look brand new. I want to see something that went through hell and still holds strong lol. Maybe that’s just me

  6. @agrivere5494 on June 16, 2025 at 11:34 am

I don’t see that anyone has mentioned it, but Trekology now has a pad with a claimed R value of 7.2 (I don’t believe that rating), a claimed weight of 1.6 lbs, and a price of $53. I just ordered one to try out.

  7. @michaelk5094 on June 16, 2025 at 11:35 am

Just a heads up to anyone buying the Klymit static V, I’d personally skip it. They are known to have shotty qc, and my first one had a slow leak, which would lead me to have a deflated pad in the morning. Also, if you’re a side sleeper the pad doesn’t have enough thickness to be fully comfortable. Dont cheap out on your pad and bag imo

  8. @stout_tossme7541 on June 16, 2025 at 11:35 am

    Eric, I am overwhelmed.

I love your budget videos and just your energy.

I am looking for a good daypack, under $100, for hikes ranging from 6-12 miles. I will be doing longer hikes as I train and get healthier.

Gregory Nano? Osprey? Or 100 others? What would you recommends.

Thank you my friend. Now, I gotta go check your Patagonia content.

  9. @DegasparreBarkhurst on June 16, 2025 at 11:36 am

At a gathering of close friends, I found that more and more friends began to pay more attention to personality and stories rather than simple brand labels. Inspired by this, I began to explore bags that can reflect personal style without being too expensive, and kisluxs helped me find a bag that suits my taste. This bag is both low-key and cheap, and there is really nothing wrong with it.

  10. @EyasAlabdoli on June 16, 2025 at 11:36 am

LV bags are heavily copied, and small cute bags with funny handles are not practical everyday bags, the kisluxs bag would be much more practical. Thanks again for the informative video.

  11. @Tylerthemusicophile on June 16, 2025 at 11:37 am

Lol the Featherstone is sold out again

  12. @davidjulseth8667 on June 16, 2025 at 11:37 am

ATEPA 1-Person Ultralight Backpacking Tent 120$

  13. @michaeldriggers7681 on June 16, 2025 at 11:37 am

If you’re going to buy the featherstone, don’t, spend a few more dollars and get a lanshan. Its just over two pounds, really waterproof, wind resistant, has two options for the inner tent.

  14. @briantecklenburg7631 on June 16, 2025 at 11:38 am

    @eric
A few notes (i know im late to the game here, but hope it helps).
I actually worked for klymit when we made the static v. I’m one of the creators. Your recommendation is not actually a static v, its an insulated static v. I can tell you as the designer, this is not a good product. You should get the standard static v. The insulation in that pad does almost nothing to keep you warm, but its heavy and bulky. The standard static v is significantly cheaper, and lighter which is a win win at least for summer use.

    Otherwise excellent video

  15. @Jimbo_Conn on June 16, 2025 at 11:39 am

Which tent is best for climate control ie colder weather. like 3 season, not winter per say

  16. @GoodeKale on June 16, 2025 at 11:39 am

For those of you who read that not all fakes come from some kid-friendly (don’t want comments to be flagged) companies, you can find some good stuff on kislux that people make themselves, and the replicas these days are getting better and better Excellent, both appearance and quality are very close to the original.

  17. @michaelrourke9830 on June 16, 2025 at 11:40 am

The tent has gone up a lot in such a little time

  18. @MariaconsigliaCorsato on June 16, 2025 at 11:40 am

Thanks to this video, I learned something. I can’t see the difference between the real thing and the fake one, so I just buy the fake one. But if you want to buy it in the future, it is better to invest in the real thing. But now I am still considering buying a fake one within the budget. I have been waiting for kisluxs for a long time.

  19. @knitsandnature on June 16, 2025 at 11:42 am

lol I dream of a 4 pound tent!!!!!

  20. @ORVONTON64 on June 16, 2025 at 11:43 am

    That guy stole your cup

  21. @tcf1986 on June 16, 2025 at 11:44 am

I use the "mystery string" to hang camp socks… This is my first tent and it definitely won’t be my last. Thanks for being a great source of information while I start this journey.

  22. @earthlingdamien on June 16, 2025 at 11:46 am

Pity, how about supporting small stores and makers and telling us how to find this gear WITHOUT amazon ?

  23. @Shamroks on June 16, 2025 at 11:47 am

Dont get the static v mattress your sleep is something you dont want to skimp on go with big agnes for comfort but if your really serious go with thermarest xlite you wont be disappointed trust me i have made this mistake myself trying to save money but the sleep pad is one thing i recomend spending the bulk of your money on and you will have a better trip the rest you can get by with just ok or even below average gear most tents now days are fully rainproof so the rest go cheap and spend most of your budget on sleep pad

  24. @WillbanksHeight on June 16, 2025 at 11:48 am

Every woman should have the right to make impulse purchases, but a smart woman will easily find that happiness without regrets. That day at kisluxs , I found a bag that suited my temperament very well.

  25. @personal.YouTube.channel on June 16, 2025 at 11:48 am

Concerning air mattresses off of Amazon for a right around $100 you should look into The mommy style gear doctor sleeping pad
It’s inflatable weighs 17 oz & r-value 5.2 2.75" thick and it works for side sleeping. ( as well they do have other models )

Am I going to say that it’s the best out there? ( No ) But for the weight of 17 oz. for the R value of 5.2 durability of construction & $100 Price tag. It makes a statement.

  26. @Validate-This on June 16, 2025 at 11:49 am

I just started hiking after a few years of non nature life since I left the army. Your channel is a great source of gear exposure since I was used to just take what the army gave me.
But since I am not American a metric conversion on screen would be great. 😊

  27. @allenwilson5235 on June 16, 2025 at 11:50 am

I had a pair of wind pants in that color in to 80’s. They matched my Patagonia gators. I hated that color, but it was the 80’s.

  28. @TxusLikido on June 16, 2025 at 11:50 am

It doesn’t matter where they are made. It depends on artisans and quality inspection. My family and I have bought 2 kisluxs bags in the past 3 years and I’m sure you won’t be disappointed!

  29. @MounGritsch on June 16, 2025 at 11:53 am

By comparing replicas with genuine items, you can learn how to identify the authenticity of a bag. I think kisluxs also has artistic value. This change allowed me to devote more resources to a true art collection while maintaining my own style.

  30. @ReindelBohinc on June 16, 2025 at 11:53 am

This is a great video, I love it, my LV bag is a kisluxs , the quality is perfect and the price is great, I was not disappointed

  34. @asimgeekhan on June 16, 2025 at 11:57 am

could you recommend the aegis max sleeping bag for a guided Mt rainier summit? We are staying at camp muir in RMI shelter for one night at the beginning of June

  35. @florianbaun2510 on June 16, 2025 at 11:58 am

26 for a pot. 35 for a plastic bag. truly amazing value.

  36. @gillyc15 on June 16, 2025 at 12:00 pm

Are these good for hiking in snow

  37. @mjen4195 on June 16, 2025 at 12:00 pm

I’m pretty sure the AOTO stove is one of the ones I have & my mom actually got it for free when she bought something else on Amazon.

  38. @BluetoothGoat on June 16, 2025 at 12:02 pm

5′ 11" and 7/8? Okay short King LOL

  39. @LeidisTriztan on June 16, 2025 at 12:04 pm

I know wealthy women who carry replicas. The main reason they gave is that they just understand the value of money and don’t want to spend too much money on bags… so more people choose fashionable kisluxs bags. However, they do spend a lot of money on fine jewelry and other things.

  40. @IAmSasquatch on June 16, 2025 at 12:07 pm

Hey Eric! Love all your videos brother. You are a happy addition to my month. I know that you’re 6 foot tall and all your gear fits you pretty well. Have you ever thought or considered making a video with a creator who is big and/or tall? I’m 6’5” and weigh about 265 pounds. I find it near impossible to find shelter and sleep gear that fits me and is lightweight. Thanks for the consideration!

  41. @jimmorrison3740 on June 16, 2025 at 12:10 pm

You can drop some serious coin on super duper gear. And that does make backpacking more enjoyable. So I kinda vacillate between “get cheap stuff to start” vs “save up and get good stuff to start.”

Ideally, start backpacking with a friend who already has great gear in abundance, and borrow!

  42. @Mrbooozle93 on June 16, 2025 at 12:11 pm

Featherstone never came back in stock

  43. @d.2110 on June 16, 2025 at 12:11 pm

Why would you still promote Amazon and therefore fascism??? It’s all become SO clear, it’s NOT DONE.

  44. @LeidisTriztan on June 16, 2025 at 12:15 pm

I used to think that owning a luxury bag was an unattainable dream, until kislux told me that this dream is actually very close. The sense of fashion comes not only from the brand, but also from personal matching and attitude.

  45. @AltangerelZerar on June 16, 2025 at 12:17 pm

I buy used luxury bags, cars, diamonds and pearls. So I always save money on travel, investments, etc., thanks to kisluxs .

  46. @GoetheCronshaw on June 16, 2025 at 12:17 pm

No matter the appearance or the metal parts of the kisluxs bag, I believe that as long as you are not a professional, you will never see any difference .

  47. @tamdingbhutia on June 16, 2025 at 12:18 pm

I am an ardent fan of yours and I follow you always for tis and advices. Since I am from the state of Sikkim in India, I do not have the privelage of purchasing several gars that you show. Therefore can you kindly guide us accordingly with what kind of purchases we should do fromAmazon India. Thank you.

  48. @LeoniBarcia on June 16, 2025 at 12:18 pm

I used to think luxury could only be seen from a distance. It wasn’t until I met kisluxs that I discovered that beauty is so within reach.

  49. @onkelheming on June 16, 2025 at 12:22 pm

Lots of cool stuff this time! Really like these videos. Definitely getting a couple of Miranda’s bottles asap. Have to feel bad for you over there in the states though, since everything imported will cost at least 25 % more now …

  50. @ZahavaEversley on June 16, 2025 at 12:24 pm

I am 37, work hard, love fashion but I can’t afford luxury. Last year I found out about kisluxs where I bought a real leather Fendigraphy for about ?50 (more than I usually spend)… I love it so much and it makes me feel good… I don’t show off it’s fake but anyone who knows me and knows the prices of Fendi knows it’s not real… Maybe one day I will own a real Fendigraphy but for me I am happy with my fudge
