Extreme wind and rain. 50mph wind and freezing rain. New backpacking gear. How to stay warm and dry hiking and backpacking and camping.
You left the new guys in the woods to grab a burger!?! 😂 Amazing scenery, so beautiful! Kudos to you for taking the newbies. I’m going on my first trip the beginning of June, could only find another newbie to go along. We can’t wait!
Props to the guy rocking the USMC ILBE.
Hatchets, Saws, tables, Rocketstoves…. Clearly UL backpacking lol
The greatest body of water the world has ever known ❤
My motto is to have something and not need it than to need something and not have it. Your dedication, compassion, and love for what you do truly shows through your knowledge, wisdom, and spirit while helping others directly and indirectly. I’ve watched about 20 of your videos in the last week so that I could be prepared for my first ever hike on the AT. Thank you for all you do and especially for the lives you have changed in Africa, US, and around the world.
Talk about out of the frying pan and into the fire. That weather, hehe. 😮
Go backpacking, they said. It’ll be fun!! 🙃
Yes please, more videos like this! Thank you for sharing.
Hey been watching your videos for a little bit now and just realized you look kinda like Vince Vaugh and Javier Bardem, kinda cool.
The imagery in this is gorgeous!!!
Over thirty years ago my Dad, son and I were canoeing a river here in Alaska in the pouring rain. We stopped at a good place and set up camp including the two lightweight rain flys. An older man and his grandson came up landed next to us. They were both shivering and close to hypothermia. We built a big fire and got them warm staying up all night with them. Someone once asked my why I carry two rainflys and I told them I’d rather carry a couple wet rainflys than all my other stuff wet.
Great video. We did a 4 person trip along pictured rock in 2021 and similar wind but a little warmer. 3 nights, great time. Plan your trip way in advance if you want good sites. I would like to hear more about the planning you go through with such a large group. Destination, route, camping spots, etc. The videos and sights are inspiring so I think they are a value add to get people out there.
Wind makes for a miserable outdoor experience.
Kudos to you Dan for doing this. I absolutely love Michigan and Superior when they’re at their gnarliest. And it’s always special to see familiar ground on YouTube videos. What a treat that they all loved it.
This looked incredibly miserable to me😳😳😳 I hate being cold, I hate being wet and I really hate high winds 🤔🤔 not sure why I want to go on these hiking trips 😬🤣🤣
How do you clean your gears? Do you wash it?
Awesome video – I’ve been watching you for a few months now trying to get back into hiking. Based upon what you’ve said I live relatively close to you. How do you go about finding the best small / overnight hiking loops or areas around your (our) location? That’s where I’m currently stuck, a lot of things are either super small 1-2 mile looks or point to points.
I liked this video because it showed how to handle bad weather, because not all hiking trips are with sunny and great weather . thanks for showing how to handle the difficult weather too. Happy trails from Ontario Canada.
Nasty days always make you appreciate the blue sky days soooo much more!
How do you shower when backpacking
@DanBecker, this trail looks amazing. Which was it?
I Love Your Videos I Have Been Watching All Day. I Realy Find Your Videos Awesome. I Love The One When You Guys Invited Youtube Watchers To Join You Camping. And Along Came Owen. I Cried Over This Video I Watched It 3 Times Today That One Really Touched Me Deeply. You Are Amazing Dan Thank You And God God Bless You❤🎉❤🎉😊
I would love to go on a Dan Becker wind tunnel adventure!
What dates did you hike the trail? Was the weather expected that time of year?
I’m glad you’re ok!
Looked like a blast!
Wow! I just got back from a two day trip on January 8th at the Two Lakes Loop that forced me to bail at 3am in below freezing temps because of inclement weather that was causing high river crossings and flash flood warnings (forecast called for light rain). My biggest fear was trees falling on me in the wind while I was hiking and in my sleep. I’m relatively new to backpacking so hearing big (and I mean trees big enough to take out other big trees on their way down) trees and limbs fall in the forest scared the bejeezus out of me. Of course I checked for widow makers but how do you know when inclement weather is too inclement and it’s time to head home? Luckily I was a 6 mile hike away from my vehicle
This is where iam from! Woooooo Cool Video!
Leaving the new guys at camp to go get burgers is and come back is awesome
Wow I Live In Michigan And Never Have I Ever Seen Superior Up Rooted Like This Dan And Crew Thank God Your Safe And Protected With God Amen God Bless You All❤
This is the best white noise. 😂😂
I absolutely love hiking! There’s something so peaceful about being out in nature, surrounded by beautiful scenery and fresh air. I find it’s the perfect way to disconnect from the stresses of everyday life and just enjoy the present moment. Whether it’s a short day hike or a multi-day backpacking trip, there’s always something new to discover on the trails. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a little adventure and a lot of serenity. Happy hiking everyone!
Bravo, the guys did well. I would have been worried that they would not want to go again.
Hey Dan, I’ve got a group of 7-8 friends who have never gone backpacking before and I was wondering if later on this year, once hurricane season is in full swing, you would take them on a backpacking trip to Florida? 😀In all seriousness though, you must have had a group of really good guys to tolerate that weather on their very first trip and still want to go again! God bless you all!
Great video Dan, thank you for sharing this one.
and and some friends are going with tiger friends who have never hiked before on like 20/25 miles on the AT. hope they ready lol
That looks beautiful. But wind and trees scare me. I have been on a ridge with 50 mph gusts. Trees swaying. Couldn’t wait to get down from there.
THATS A LAKE NOT A SEA. WHAT!
Keep looking at the guy hiking with the down jacket on. Gonna get sweaty then useless.
More please!
We were on vacation that week and drove by pictures rocks from the cabin to Copper Harbor. My wrangler was being thrown around. I can’t imagine hiking out there in that weather! They were saying 18-20 foot waves.
Awesome video Dan! Loved seeing the intense weather and heavy seas of the Great Lakes! You can show as many of these videos as you like. I really enjoyed watching this and always learn something from them.
I did a trip in the Porcupines and got pounded like this. Middle of the night I wake up to my black lab standing and shivering. The entire campsite was flooded including my tent even though I tried to pick a high spot.
Also did a trip out to Isle Royale. Had great weather.
You never know!
8:08 hey, that’s the bridge at Chapel Creek
note to self: CHECK THE WEATHER FORECAST BEFORE GOING OUT. Unless you are doing a survival exercise.
I love that you took a group from your church! I brought a group of girls from my church last summer who were new to backpacking and intimidated to go on a trip with guys so we made it a girls only trip. I was also able to lend out gear and empower some awesome women to get out there and enjoy God’s creation.
So glad you made it. Michigan, beautiful at it’s worst. Magnificent at it’s best.
They want to go back again?? Adventure! Who wouldn’t. Kudos 👏
Wow, I hiked that trail the same month last year and the weather was perfect for us. Sunny and clear.
