Nice video. I wish these companies that make backpacking (day packs) such as Osprey, North Face…etc…would one day design a day packing camera bag, that would be great. I’ve tried different camera bags for day hiking, always a compromise between packs designed for hiking as opposed to customizing to carry camera gear. For short day hikes, I bought the most recent version of the MindShift 180 (because they finally put a water bottle sleeve on the side that doesn’t interfere with the rotation of the enclosed camera pack, bought a few mollie bags and attached via zip ties, to carry safety stuff, first aid kit, multi tool, flashlight, snacks, etc…works great because of ease to access the camera. For longer, all day hikes, I bought a Mystery Ranch pack and sewed in velcro attached camera storage cube at the top, that has enough room for A7R5 and 24-105 lens and plenty of left over room to carry rain jacket, food, water, safety stuff, etc. Looking forward to watching your other videos, I subscribed to your channel.
Great video. Going to Grand Teton and Yellowstone in about 3 weeks for about 10 days. Bought the Peak Design Capture Clip and the Hitchhiker tripod using your links. Hopefully you get a little out of it. Saw your picture of the camera on the hitchhiker tripod on the Amazon product detail page as well.
lovely video! any suggestions on footwear? Are hiking shoes really necessary versus regular sneakers?
This is awesome! I just switched from a "Standard" hiking backpack to this exact kind of setup! I now use an Osprey Stratos 36!
Love from Ontario, Canada! My wife and I watched your video on our TV and I came here on my desktop to leave tis comment. Thank you for sharing and it was good to see that you don’t carry tons of photography gear like others do and showcase. As hikers, who takes hiking shots on the go, we will be looking forward to watching more of your hiking photography videos.
Great video. Cheers from Norway ππ
Great info! β€
Audio in room is badβ¦.but great video!!!
Nice content, interested in your detailed opinion on the peak travel tripod, as Iβve been on the fence about it, ironically for reason you mentioned the ball headβ¦β¦ be great to see your real world use case & opinion as a professional Photog, cheers from the west coast π»
Trekking poles unavailable. So did you have a chance to go some place & handle different trekking poles or just ordered a pair? I ask because Amazon had other Black Diamond poles shown.
Great informative video question …does the PD capture plate fit into the RRS ball head?
Iβve been fumbling with multiple lenses out on hikes and travels, and I got sick of it. I recently switched to the Tamron 18 – 300and I was looking for confirmation that Iβm not crazy for doing that. Glad to see that someone well-versed went a similar route. Thanks for sharing!
Can you please provide the link to buy peak design travel tripod?
Great video, thanks Mallory!
Two questions:
-Does your Osprey work for you as an EDC/travel bag if you’e traveling and also want a laptop and other accessories, or do you have a separate bag for that?
-Does your Sony fit inside the Osprey if you decide you don’t want it dangling from the capture clip the entire time?
To convince myself that it’s a good idea to bring too many lenses, I tell myself that it will toughen me up for the next times π I know it’s not "smart", it makes the climbs harder, but I love some lenses too much. My main one is the big Sigma 40mm f/1.4, and in the backpack the small Tamron 17-28mm f/2.8 (mostly used around ~23mm), the new Tamron 90mm f/2.8 macro for mushrooms, flowers, insects but also for landscapes and animals and an old Takumar 200mm f/4 which takes up little space. Most of the photos are taken with the 40 and the 90 but I love having a few occasions to use the others a bit too. With almost 3 liters of water and a few accessories and a tripod, that’s a lot! But if I know that some will not be useful in a specific place, I do not bring them π«£
So if your camera has the peak design attachment while hiking- then you have to take that off to put it on the tripod that has a different clip? thanks for clarifying.
