I’m sorry but saying that a piece of gear that costs half as much as your recommended option isn’t logically sound. A $200 sleeping pad is better than the $100 pad. Well no kidding. As usual, your gear videos are very bougie and insist that the audience can simply drop hundreds of dollars on a single piece of gear rather than making due with what they have. Furthermore, the obsession with featherweight, plastic, expensive gear is tiring.

Packed a jet boil for a decade in the army. It went through all sorts of abuse that army kit suffers. Still using it in my retirement years. Get a Jet boil. Just because the impression is it feels cheap is not a reason to not get one.

Hey is my self inflating Swiss army pad any good I think it’s ok but it’s kinda annoying when you can feel the plastic knobs from below it

  7. @meme4one on July 23, 2025 at 1:01 pm

I agree jetboils are overpriced but I’ve had zero issues with mine and know a lot of very happy owners.

Tricking people with R values is dangerous garbage from a so called quality product! Those that end up in bad weather it can mean life and death not having the right gear. Maybe a pad won’t kill you but its always a list of things that lead to a dangerous situation.

I have to wonder how the testing on these pads is done because I have 2 Klymit static V pads and i have used the Static V Luxe SL down to 20°F, which is about it’s limit in a 0° bag, and down to 30°F with a quilt. Several nights in a row. It is every bit as warm and more comfortable than my Therm-a-Rest pads. My assumption is that whoever, however, these pads are tested doesn’t take into account the diagonal baffling of the Klymit pads.

  17. @Nerdthan2 on July 23, 2025 at 1:09 pm

Jetboil is the best at what it’s meant to do…. Boil water. The downfall is that’s all it’s good at cooking wise imo, I have 2 and there is no flame control really, it’s all or nothing. Lots of time spent scrubbing burnt chili or soup out of the bottom of the pot. A cheap iso butane burner from Amazon and a pot, the burner and a small fuel can will likely fit in the pot

  18. @bobbyenglish7803 on July 23, 2025 at 1:09 pm

People who love their jetboil have never experienced anything else, at least in my experience. Last time I was backpacking with someone, they had to relight it no less than 5 times because of the difficulty with adjustability and the resulting boiling over. By the time they had dinner ready for themselves, I was done eating thanks to my MSR whisperlite.

  22. @Mr.Philosophist on July 23, 2025 at 1:14 pm

Jetboil has its merits. They are great for campground weekend warriors, glampers and social media vlogging.
The BRS stove that most people in the ultralight long distance hiking community uses weighs only 26 grams. Jetboil flash for on the other hand is 370 grams. Some models are a pound. Not really up for debate in terms of what is more intelligent to bring when going longer distances over multiple days when every gram and oz of pack weight matters.

  23. @bigstick5278 on July 23, 2025 at 1:14 pm

The only reason I bought the KLYMIT Insulated Static V Lux because it was wide for my size.
I never had any issues with it other than the first models that had weird valves that would not lock into closed position sometimes without feeling like you were going to strip it.
Klymit is good at free replacements without any ridiculous inquisition like with Big Agnes!!
Who wants you to cut the valve off and wright on the pad with a sharpie the code number and date you cut it off send them a photo of all that to get a replacement.
although I don’t snow camp I’ve been in like teens with it and it stayed warm.
If there was a Wide insulated pad that works better I would get it.
SOTO Windmaster with Tri leg pot stand and a Fire-Maple 600ml G3 Petrel Ultralight Pot for my Solo needs. I use a jetboil knock off for my motorcycle touring.

  24. @EldestPuck on July 23, 2025 at 1:14 pm

Jetboil I would never buy. Way to unflexible…

  25. @75keg75 on July 23, 2025 at 1:17 pm

I have a jet oil it good for compactness snd speed.

But the first one I had burnt me as the handle was too thin or material transferred heat well. They swapped it.

The second unit melted the orange plastic under the burner. The wind blew it and it warped and discolored. It is still functional ss I trurmed it off before it ignited.

It would be good to 3d scan it and print one out of stainless steel or titanium.

  29. @Bosleven on July 23, 2025 at 1:23 pm

I own a helinox chair, I rather sit on the damp floor sorry to say. I find those chairs extremely uncomfortable to sit in for more than 5 minutes. I used that stupid chair maybe 2 times in 3 years and instead I just sit on the floor on my knee mat now

  30. @Itsallron on July 23, 2025 at 1:24 pm

Yeah i love my Jetboil. Sure there are alternatives but to say avoid is bollocks

  31. @GageGonzalez-k3b on July 23, 2025 at 1:28 pm

I found a Chinese jet boil and it was $50 and I have both but the Chinese one works better 😅

  32. @Sagivisrael on July 23, 2025 at 1:32 pm

A lot of people don’t know that Klymit does not make"hiking/camping gear" they make and sale hammock gear advertised as camping gear. All their pads are terrible for ground sleeping, but excellent in the air

  33. @okaygunreviews2540 on July 23, 2025 at 1:33 pm

Did you use these items while sleeping in an airbnb at AT Trail Days, PCT Days or OR SLC?

  36. @o.b.873 on July 23, 2025 at 1:36 pm

man, jetboil is fantastic and none other product on the market is even close to speed of boiling the water and saving of fuel consumption, so please stop spreading bullshit

  37. @Bannysadkosays2u on July 23, 2025 at 1:37 pm

At 4:06 you showed my pack, the very one I have. I love my Osprey backpack! Super lightweight and very comfortable.

  38. @jacobed1845 on July 23, 2025 at 1:38 pm

Jetboil is cap. Used it for the Appalachian Trail and it was a beast. Main plus is it’s the apple of propane systems, so once you’ve drank the koolaid it’s at least a nice place to be, and the extra weight is offset by the minimal fuel consumption, which was about half of most others I talked to. A 230g fuel canister, at 2 hot meals a day, lasted on average 25 days, and I needed 4 in 903 miles. Main con is cost.

  39. @_josh_cyr_ on July 23, 2025 at 1:38 pm

The freelite 3 is the model that shines… There’s so much room for 2lbs 7oz and retails for $500!!!

  40. @Olympic_TryAthlete on July 23, 2025 at 1:41 pm

I have the REI chair. Only complaint is a big one. Unless you are on rock solid ground or can find 4 flat rocks for the feet, this chair will sink into the ground and tip you over. Forget about using it in the snow. But I haven’t tried the Helinox so nothing to compare to. Have the WIndburner and it works great and is super fast. A little bulky, but not too bad. I actually prefer my Primus ETA Lite when using my smaller pack.

  41. @ccolagio_ on July 23, 2025 at 1:44 pm

WHOA. Been using a kylmit static insulated vlite for YEARS. this astm thing is downright fraud IMO. you cant claim your pad is 4.4 in "your testing" when you use the literally testing standard and get something at half. i always felt i wanted a "warmer pad" but never could bring myself to buy a new 4+ R pad because of how affordable the klymit offering is. buying a new pad now! so freaking wrong of them to do! so happy i clicked on your video!

  42. @TomP-148 on July 23, 2025 at 1:45 pm

Former active duty infantry guy. My jetboil went everywhere. No issues and lasted 13 years. Served myself and many of my buddies well the whole time.

wow, "they give me complete freedom to talk about what i want to talk about, and say what i want about it. if they didnt, they probably wouldnt be a sponsor of mine. the reality of it is theyre not just trying to get you to buy what they sell, theyre trying to sell what you want to buy. Which is why this is a great partnership" thats amazing of them.

How can MSR bring a tent to market that, when opening the zipper, unleashes water into the tent?

I’m glad I went with Big Agnes Copper Spur 2 person tent.
