If you’re struggling to pick a fast pitching tent for your upcoming adventures, then don’t stress – just watch this video for a rundown of the most popular touring and camping tents in our range.
In this video, the Snowys video crew headed down to the Brownhill Creek Tourist park to set up a range of tents from Coleman, Black Wolf and Oztent for a tent smackdown comparison. The criteria for this showdown was that they all featured some sort of quick pitch frame, and can sleep up to four people.
Watch on as our gear guru Ben gives you a tour of a range of camping touring tents starting with the most affordable and lightweight option – the Coleman Instant Up 4P Silver, then the Coleman Instant Up 4P Gold, Black Wolf 240 X-Lite LF, Turbo 240, all the way to the heaviest and highest priced Oztent RV4.
He also talks you through a couple of others in the range not on camera including the OZtrail Fast Frame, Coleman Dark Room Series, Oztent Oxley, EPE Speedy Earth, and Oztent RX models. Ben then lines up all the bags of the tents so that you can get an idea of how their packed size compares – so check it out above for all the details.

What about the Darche Safari tents?
I was looking at the Oztent RV/RX tents. But the packed size is just a deal breaker.
Thanks, great comparison. I’ve got the 3p Swagger now. Not a bad tent but as I’m usually doing 1 nighters I’m looking for the absolute quickest setup. RV3 would be a great option as it’s quick and doesn’t need a fly, but packing size isn’t ideal. Is there any others that don’t have a separate fly?
Which tents on the market are the absolute EASIEST, quickest to put up and down for a newbie? thanks
We have an RX5 Plus goes up in no time. So good for long stay camping.
Ben, Unless I missed it in the vid, how tall are you?
You seemed to be taller than a lot of the tents you reviewed.
Would love to see all those tents packed up in their bags in the same sequence
Great video – many thanks. It’s a pity though that the better quality tents are really only suitable to transport in a trailer, SUV or 4WD in terms of pack size and bulk.
Can you do a vid on the Oztent RV3 Light, with extras? Haven’t seen this shown on YT as yet.
The ultimate show down. Your like the Milky Bar Kid. The Coleman dark room tent looks impressive when I saw it on a showroom floor. I thought the Black Wolf was the best.
Can I have my 8 minutes back please? ‘Fast pitch tent showdown’ All tents were already pitched! How is that a showdown between ‘fast pitch’ tents????? Thats a ‘Show some fast pitch tents that are already up (not down)’.
I would have liked to have seen the Darche airvolution in the mix too.
Just the video i needed ❤️
Who knew you could talk so fast… I almost had to watch this clip in slow-mo …
I wish I could fit the Oztent RV in my Ford falcon 🤣😂
Black wolf 300 turbo plus canvas tent is amazing. Great in heavy rain and high winds it just feels like it’s not going anywhere.
It’s a little heavy but I don’t mind.
Awesome tents.
Good👌👌👌….Do you have a link to these? oztent gibson. Chair???
awesome. very informative. im new to camping so it was easy to understand and I’m more equipped to buy now thanks!
I was very disappointed to find Oztent have discontinued the RV1 and RV2 tents and their accessories. Not everyone needs a tent for more than a couple and/or has a full size vehicle to carry the larger versions (not that any of them were compact) but do still want a heavy duty quality tent.
The fastest pitch is the sales pitch.
Pack up time is inversely proportional × 8.
If cold weather double the last answer.
Finally sold mine. All the benefits disappear when you are always the last to be ready to move out in the morning.
The turbo tents are just a quick as the RV if you leave the fly/awning off – I don’t bother with them unless additional rain/sun protection is required or we’re staying for more than three nights
Every other review I’ve seen says Coleman tents leak badly and collapse in wind.
manufacturers always like to display how fast thier tents can be set up. For me how fast and easy they are to pack is more important as this normally takes longer than the set up. alot of tents wont fit into their carry bags unless packed perfectly and this is not always very easy in rain and/or wind
Great video Ben 🙂 Have to admit, I’m such a Snowys tragic, that when we flew into Adelaide recently, I was looking out for (and spotted) the Snowys store from the plane!!! 🙂 Cheers, Don (Dons Shed) Perth WA
Ben is an Australian icon, need a statue of him put up outside the Snowys store
I like how he throwing slick shade at the competitors tents while uplifting his company favorite brand.
@snowys help! How do I fold this thing back up again for packdown? Can’t get the lower legs to fold. Companion exo
I’ve had the cheapest coleman tent in video for about 10 years its worn out now but its been through hell 100km winds in Jindabyne heavy rains dozens of times was going to upgrade to Blackwolf or oztent but i think any of these tents will look old in ten years of ownership I know i will be buying another Coleman because I dont think the others are worth the extra money and dont think they would handle much more then the Coleman. For eg Blackwolf front awning in I winds would be a problem and the Ozten with its up right flat surface would put a lot of pressure on its frame not saying Coleman is the best tent in the world but for the money it probably is out of the instant up tents on the market
Hi. You dont mention Kodiak tents?? Do you rate them ???? Thank you
