EXTREME winter conditions on HIGH STREET / S2-Ep5 Hiking the Wainwrights

Hiking the Wainwrights – Season 2: Far Eastern Fells – Episode 5. High Street, The Lake District

Finally I’m faced with a proper weather day! The long run of perfect calm days might have come to an end. Not great for the views or flying a drone but my goodness it’s so good for the soul!

Grab a brew (maybe a hot water bottle too) and settle down to watch this mountain fool get battered by some of the most extreme weather I’ve ever encountered.

  6. @aok5298 on June 15, 2025 at 11:31 am

I love hiking in the extreme weather also, great times! Do you take crampons, boot spikes, ice axe or helmet when heading out?

  7. @grahamsmallpeice1212 on June 15, 2025 at 11:32 am

Loving every minute of these video hikes. You’re a legend being out in those conditions but I envy you’re ability to get to these wonderful, sorry gorgeous, places so quickly. Binge watching my way through the Wainwrights ready for a Spring visit ⛰️⛰️⛰️🥾🥾

  8. @danielalpin967 on June 15, 2025 at 11:33 am

Just heading over there today, it’s my favourite bit of the Lakes, I can highly recommend Wild Fell by Lee Schofield which is all about this area

  9. @roryprice7949 on June 15, 2025 at 11:34 am

  11. @Northern_Rockhopper on June 15, 2025 at 11:36 am

Some effort that mate bagging all those wainwrights same time lugging all that weight. Pancetta on hotdogs? No way man. Haha.
    Another cracking vid mate. 🎥

  12. @metalmonti on June 15, 2025 at 11:36 am

Great video 👍maybe do a tutorial video on how to navigate the areas like you talked about in the video, would be interesting for anybody who does not have that knowledge

  13. @SusanPlunkett on June 15, 2025 at 11:38 am

How long have the basic paths existed? Fascinating place.

  14. @stigfloberghagenphotography on June 15, 2025 at 11:39 am

    Nice 🙂👍👌

  15. @BBQDad463 on June 15, 2025 at 11:40 am

Thank you for this video. It would appear you selected some fairly severe conditions for your outing. I am grateful that you were willing to film in such conditions, as I found your trek to be most enjoyable. I am certain the views would be epic in good weather.

  16. @lukaszmuszalski7856 on June 15, 2025 at 11:41 am

Thanks for another gpx route. They’re really useful. Only episode 8 and 9 left to do and all Far Eastern fells will be ticked off on my list. I’m glad I did this one today on beautiful sunny day. The views were amazing, I didn’t know where to look. Thank you for the great video and for the route so I could walk it myself ❤

  17. @leftytears on June 15, 2025 at 11:42 am

How would you navigate the area if your new and not familiar etc? Is it doable I really wanna be up there when the weather is like this but would like to know if the trails are still easy to follow etc, thanks

  18. @karram6735 on June 15, 2025 at 11:44 am

You would have been a great Viking. The other vikings would say" turn back this is awful we won’t make it." But you would most likely say awe but the views what a lovely storm let’s push on we can do it. We can’t let our Viking fans down I promised them a walk so by jove we are going to walk on hell or high water." That’s the Viking spirit. Red the terrible got nothing on you.😮

Just discovered your channel and I like it and going thru your adventures….but this jacket hood sucks…sooo bad 🤣🙈

  20. @ashdowker4326 on June 15, 2025 at 11:47 am

just started watching you and loving your videos keep up the good work coming from kendal but live near portsmouth now its always good to watch the lakes 👌

  21. @peterdelahunty9707 on June 15, 2025 at 11:48 am

Love those days. One of my favourite photos of my son was taken on the way up to Stoney Cove Pike in a blizzard. I stopped to check he was ok and he crouched behind a wall with a great big beaming smile. Love it

  22. @evew3545 on June 15, 2025 at 11:48 am

That was definitely a two Mars Bar walk. Thank you for risking life and limb to bring the gorgeousness of the Lakes to a small screen for those of us who love the place and to inspire those who haven’t visited yet to experience those fells themselves.

  23. @keithturner428 on June 15, 2025 at 11:51 am

    Superb!!

  24. @kenshinkarate3463 on June 15, 2025 at 11:52 am

Wow,brilliant film, you know your stuff and you are an inspiration to others to just get out for a wonder.

  25. @davidc4988 on June 15, 2025 at 11:55 am

Fantastic to see another we have done, again we did it in reverse about a year ago, it was a tester to say the least.
Fantastic walk through, well done and thanks for all your videos.

  26. @Dagrdottir on June 15, 2025 at 11:58 am

I hve to say I have never seen a programme of such quality on the internet or tv. In the conditions you were operating in to show the scenery with such clarity is amazing. You bring the viewer into your adventures with you and have such knowledge of the fells etc. Thank
heaven, because in those conditions I think anyone who didn’t could have been in real trouble. Honestly, you put the highly paid tv presenters to shame. Thanks for another great episode, this is definitely my favourite youtube channel.

  27. @msrevannavar9906 on June 15, 2025 at 12:02 pm

Where is this place.!? Is everyone allowed to hike..!,

  28. @jonboypatton on June 15, 2025 at 12:02 pm

Bloody hell 🥶 looks a bit fresh.

  29. @SocialCamping on June 15, 2025 at 12:05 pm

Very impressive to watch. I’m going to do my first hike early May time. Not done one since I was a kid. I won’t know where I’m going but hopefully the gps won’t fail me 😄

  30. @DAVHORNER on June 15, 2025 at 12:05 pm

Love the fact you can enter and leave such a winter, wild spot in minutes. Terrific narration, I am hooked!

  31. @lisag2815 on June 15, 2025 at 12:07 pm

    Wonderful walk.

  32. @flyingvisit2586 on June 15, 2025 at 12:07 pm

From the beautiful becks thundering down the hillsides to the blinding snow on top of High Street, wow ! someone should give you a medal. I’ve enjoyed your hard work. Thank you.🥶🥶🥶

  33. @alraymendoza4188 on June 15, 2025 at 12:08 pm

Amazing man, you are really inspiring me to get out there

  34. @josephj.minick8693 on June 15, 2025 at 12:10 pm

Nice ! Beautiful Scenery… I’m from USA 40 miles east of Pittsburgh. I was not aware that Scotland had such majestic mountains 🏔️. Very Pretty 👍

  35. @matt7768 on June 15, 2025 at 12:10 pm

Great video. Liked, subscribed. Apologies if I missed it but how long did that take you? Cheers.

  36. @leftytears on June 15, 2025 at 12:12 pm

Is it still easy enough too follow the trails with the snow ?

  37. @keithturner428 on June 15, 2025 at 12:13 pm

    Love it!!

  38. @Ian-yf7cj on June 15, 2025 at 12:15 pm

In the wet it’s like walking in a water course as the water runs down the path most of the way

  39. @michaelfrymus on June 15, 2025 at 12:15 pm

what camera do you use for your videos? I don’t wanna use my pro photo camera, nor my gopro as that thing dies faster than it boots up, so I’m trying to see what others use to get ideas
    And mic setup?

  40. @zeevon9 on June 15, 2025 at 12:15 pm

Nothing like mother nature to make you feel aware and alive!! Loved the video!

  41. @Wilks_outdoors on June 15, 2025 at 12:16 pm

    Great video, 👍 thank you.

  42. @mikenewey3949 on June 15, 2025 at 12:16 pm

Went up High Street yesterday using the alternate route you described I.e. up Rough Crag to racecourse hill then across to Mardale Ill Bell and down the Nan Bield pass. Very stony as you said, but the waterfalls were lovely. Thanks for the suggestions.

  43. @TraceUK on June 15, 2025 at 12:17 pm

We don’t mind not being able to see your eyes! If it’s more comfortable for you to have them sheltered by your hood then def do it! 💙

  44. @Ian-yf7cj on June 15, 2025 at 12:17 pm

I have just come down from there had lunch at the cairn . Then up and down for a cup of tea at small water a superb walk.

  45. @valbain209 on June 15, 2025 at 12:17 pm

Your poor eyeballs. If you could find clear goggles to protect your eyes. Or snow goggles.

  46. @keithtanner2806 on June 15, 2025 at 12:17 pm

Criss-crossed Nan Bield pass countless times in all weathers and conditions including deep snow.

  47. @nidfest on June 15, 2025 at 12:17 pm

I carry a pair of ski goggles for days like that. much easier on the eyes ; )

  48. @cheerio2010 on June 15, 2025 at 12:19 pm

    Amazing!!!!

  49. @BlackCrag on June 15, 2025 at 12:20 pm

Ecky Thumps! that was a cold hike, still loved it. A little imagination needed of the views from the top, still great though. Thanks.
