In Girl Scouts back in 1956 or so we made something like this to use at day camp in the woods near Portland Oregon. Then we made a stew in a coffee can which we cooked over the little fire. It worked well. I think we used a rock on each side of the fire to set the stew on. Good memories.

We made these in the 60s in Boy Scouts. Use tin snips to cut the can for a wind block and grill. No power tools needed.

I’m gonna tell you how to build a small cooker for free! Gather some small pieces of wood and tinder, use a match or lighter, and get a fire going, place a sturdy stick over the fire and hang the cup, or place cup on the flames. To extinguish, pour water and bury.

  33. @BigChumby on May 12, 2025 at 10:53 am

    Former dollar tree cashier here:
The Buck and quarter thing isn’t inflation or greedflation. Back in ’21 when the change was made our boss pulled the cashiers and stockers into loading/storage/break room area.
She explained that due to the company beginning to change suppliers and getting more varied and quality goods that some, mostly nonessential items, would be increased anywhere from a dime to a quarter.
After a week of hearing "BuT I THOughT thIs wuz A DOLLAR TREE" I got snippy with a Karen and when she tried to complain to my manager God bless her she crashed out. I miss working there.

  34. @pretztel1551 on May 12, 2025 at 10:55 am

Many people here donโ€™t seem to realize that he never described it as a โ€œsurvivalโ€ stove. He called it a โ€œcampingโ€ stove, on account of this being intended to be made at home before going out camping or backpacking.
