1. Look up to be sure no dead tree limbs are hanging above campsite.
2. Plan to arrive at campsite by mid afternoon so you have plenty of daylight to set up.
Great tips Frazier! Very useful information friend. The one thing I would add is to setup camp well before dark. (Made that mistake before.)
Hands down the best tent tips
channel.
why do you orient it towards the central path? what’s the rationalle? newbie here
I live that in the first 10 secs, he specifies a "tent camper"….the only way to camp impo. I think the RVs and little campers arent really camping. (I can understand using them in the winter, which we dont do)
Thank you โค
Love all your tipsโผ๏ธ๐ฟ๐ผ๐
Another thing to help keep camping easier is to have dedicated storage bins and dedicated kitchen equipment. My wife and I bought 3 large totes to fit most of the gear and kitchen equipment into. That way we don’t have to raid the kitchen for utensils and pans.
Tote 1 – camp fuel, propane tanks, table torch, lights (lanterns, flashlights, solar lights), ropes, tarps, tripod grill, fire starters, table cloth.
Tote 2 – propane stove, utensils, pots, pans, enamel plates/bowls/cups/silverware, other kitchen stuff
Tote 3 – blankets, first aid, bug spray, and we’ll add batteries and games.
Then when its time to pack the truck we grab the totes, a cooler for the perishables, canvas bags for non perishables, luggage, tent, screen dome canopy, cots, cot pads, sleeping bags, tiki poles, and tarp poles.
Much easier with dedicated storage and dedicated kitchen gear. Get your storage bins and kitchen utensils either at dollar tree or walmart to keep costs low. Ocean state job lot has stuff for cheap like batteries vs going to a home improvement store. Camping equipment is an investment so there is some upfront cost if you like camping.
I DONT recommend going cheap on your tent – buy quality.
Cots are better than air mattresses because it won’t leak or tear and you have a foot of space from the ground, and pads for them make it almost like you’re on a real mattress. Buy quality cots and pads.
I’m always learning from you. I just bought the same wagon you have and use the REI Kingdom 6 as my long term camping tent. Enjoy getting out camping everyone!
As always, very good suggestions!
Hey, thank you, as a newcomer your videos are really useful!
I enjoyed this very much. I can tell you worked hard on it. โค
loved every bit of this video, great useful information
Sir you donโt look a day over 55 ๐ง
Itโs just lovely when you have a nice campground with RVs and then people come in with the tacky tents and ruin the scenery of the woods.
I’ve saved this so I can go back a few times and make notes. Disorganization requires chaos. If you’re organized, it doesn’t matter that you don’t know what you’re doing, it’ll look like it. In this case, that means that we’ll have a much better trip for having crossed your path so if you’re still around, thank you…
๐๐ฝ๐ I just bought the Carsule, should have it next week I just subscribed to your channel I hope I learn a lot๐๐ฝ
Great Tips!
Thanks. Good tips.
You are really the best!
Great video Frazier, many helpful tipsโฆ..you and your wife take care!
Really great info. I’m planning to go camping for the first time since I was a kid and getting to see all of your different setups was really helpful. One question I have is how important is it to have a canopy tent to cover the kitchen/eating area?
Wow what a useful video! Knowledge from years of experience.
Great details on choosing, setting up, arrangement of a campsite. Almost 55 years of camping experience would consider you an expert camper. You’ve traveled far and beyond when camping. I enjoyed watching and learn something every time I watch one of your videos. Thank you for sharing. Take care Frazier D… Friend. ๐บ๐ฒ
Good to see you’re back. Enjoy your summer!
Iโll be embarking on my first primitive camping trip in over 30 years soon. Itโs going to be a warm one and it might rain. So Iโll also be trying to erect a rain/shade tarp solo. It should be interesting. Your videos are so helpful in dusting off my rusty camping skills.
Great video and great information, thank you for sharing!

Excellent information! Thanks for sharing ๐ ๐
This is wonderful and informative information for new campers. I am an avid camper and came across your channel because I am binge watching camp videos in anticipation of our first camp trip of the 2022 season next weekend ๐ Subscribing now…happy camping!!
Do you have any recommendations for tent stakes being driven in gravel? Almost all campsites in TN have gravel lots.
Jeez nothing like roughing it, don’t forget the kitchen sink =)
Thank you ๐ happy camping
The tip about securing an electric site so you can setup a fan is brilliant! Iโm a new to camping, and was absolutely miserable last weekend when trying to sleep in 90 weather. Thank you!
He should have gotten the role in jorasic park
Love your channel. Very helpful practical information. Much needed in todays crazy world. Thank you. Also you have a beautiful family. Thanks for sharing
Great video Frazier. One more thing about trees. LOOK UP for dead limbs. When I was in DAR Campground in 2019 in VT, the site that the ranger recommended when the monsoonal rain started limbs were falling on my car and due to marsh environment loads of mosquitos. Luckily the campground was not crowded so I just moved as I had not set up camp yet and did not like the looks of things to start with. Was an interesting experience. Half a pound of nails and hammer would help for some of your setup situations on asphalt etc; you know times when the normal tent stakes get bent. Some ideas. You definitely are the Avid Tent Camper. So glad to have reached out to you years ago. I love your books on camping also.
This video is super helpful, thank you!

Excellent pointers! I wrote everything down and will keep it handy to refer to when I get ready to go out on my first camping adventures in my new/old minivan! Thanks so much! Great information!
Buy a 20×16 tarp and use it as a roof for your tent. Have one end lower than the other (where it makes sense) so if it rains your tent doesnt get very wet, if at all, and you have a dry area to sit outside the tent.
