Anything that smells attracts bears. That toothpaste, mints and lotion. Might have well been a bagel with cream cheese sitting there

  2. @FirstHomeStudio on July 17, 2025 at 12:22 pm

Awesome videos I hope to document my journey with my dog Spot when I get my class C RV…I’m excited

I’m with Stacy….I don’t like cold of any kind. Y’all go have fun and we will guard the saloon until you get back.

  4. @Thehumanlife on July 17, 2025 at 12:23 pm

Nice video! What are you using for protection against bears? Bear spray or a gun? Is it legal to carry a gun in CA for protection against wild animals?

  5. @shelleyspurgeon2095 on July 17, 2025 at 12:23 pm

Avoid California Hwy 1 (horrible switchbacks, incredibly narrow, and completely terrifying, especially when towing…ask me how I know!) between Hwy 101 and Westport on the Northern California coast. My RV GPS lead me down that awful path. It was the white knuckle drive and I seriously needed a cocktail when I finally got to Westport.

  6. @larrywiddis470 on July 17, 2025 at 12:24 pm

Your dump station locator is good but if a newbie’s eyes are open they will find what they need. That’s what I tell ’em.

  7. @gilbertmal6033 on July 17, 2025 at 12:25 pm

You give me hot chocolate and a fireplace and a good classic Christmas movie I’m in like Flynn. lol

Dodge ridge above pinecrest has a nice lodge to hang out in that’s warm . They have skiing, snowboarding, and sledding.

  9. @goinsomewheretogether on July 17, 2025 at 12:28 pm

As Paul Harvey used to say and "that’s the rest of the story!" I had meant to ask you the outcome when we met at Balloon Fiesta.

  10. @brucekincaid5365 on July 17, 2025 at 12:29 pm

Sorry for the damage, but didn’t y’all talk about Clorox cups around the camper and car and does it really work.

  11. @To.Be.Determined on July 17, 2025 at 12:32 pm

    👍👍👍. thanks for sharing!!

  12. @MikeC19100 on July 17, 2025 at 12:32 pm

That event was probably very Un-Bearable to endure…. OK, that was a bad attempt at humor, but I could barely contain myself from it. Does RV insurance cover those kinds of damages or does that require an add-on writer or something like that? We have USAA for our vehicle, but the RV is covered by Progressive.

  13. @karenrichey6074 on July 17, 2025 at 12:32 pm

Would bear spray work on the vehicle to keep the bears away?

  14. @pianogal853 on July 17, 2025 at 12:34 pm

What’s the location of that mobile station? I didn’t quite catch the name of the campground

  15. @robmcneill2967 on July 17, 2025 at 12:35 pm

Would Changing Lanes be able to go everywhere you did? We are researching/building one very similar only we will pull it with a MDT. I have the experience I just need the space.
That looks like a place a could hang out in for a while!!!

  16. @billcupps1481 on July 17, 2025 at 12:37 pm

you her talking she dosent stop lol

  17. @irenehinojosa6629 on July 17, 2025 at 12:37 pm

Wow absolutely beautiful. Reminds me of taking the train up mountains in Switzerland. Was this your second time the bears got into your car?

  18. @marywells9162 on July 17, 2025 at 12:38 pm

I am totally with you on the “ski trip “🙂

  19. @timsilva1944 on July 17, 2025 at 12:40 pm

    Glad you enjoyed it!
Not sure why you were compelled to take 49 from Oakhurst to 120 via Coulterville (which is a fun motorcycle route), instead of using 41 into the park, then taking 120 to Lee Vining. Or take 49 to 140 in Mariposa, then into Yosemite and 120 over.
Also, there’s plenty of dispersed camping south of Mono off 395 that you’d have no issue with bears. No hook-ups, but solitude and intact windows. Carefull, could get the RV stuck in pumice. Love the Eastern Sierras!

  20. @abw4760 on July 17, 2025 at 12:41 pm

I’ve just discovered your channel as I’ve gone down a rabbit hole about full-time RVing. I love watching your adventures.

  21. @stevenclark7262 on July 17, 2025 at 12:42 pm

Hey Phil, you should have a sponsorship from Oakley sunglasses !

  22. @Steve-ps6qw on July 17, 2025 at 12:44 pm

How do you handle your dog? Can you take the fur baby everywhere or do you leave him/her in the RV? I think it would be like leaving him/her at home for a few hours, right?

  23. @LdeBluEyes on July 17, 2025 at 12:47 pm

If you ever run into the bear issue again, we keep a 2 yard piece of clear plastic (from the fabric store (can also be used as a table cloth)) in our emergency box. The clear plastic is so much thicker and quieter than the trash bags and they are clear and cheap for a temp situation.

  24. @TRAVELSTUCK on July 17, 2025 at 12:50 pm

    This place is awesome 👌

  25. @BootsandJeansRiders on July 17, 2025 at 12:50 pm

I know we are late….Hwy 49 is known as California Little Dragon, We love it. But we are on motorcycles lol.

Try Timberline Lodge at Mt Hood Oregon-excellent hot toddies.

  28. @MichaelPaszkowski on July 17, 2025 at 12:52 pm

Glade you had fun. Really thought we were going to see the camp ground. Not you daily life. You’re very fortunate. Some of us are not, so the info is dire.

  29. @shaunkipke1303 on July 17, 2025 at 12:52 pm

Me and my family were camping at Aspen camp the 2nd week of July last year. Aspen is about 1.5 miles farther up the canyon form Lower Lee Vining. A bear ripped the door off of our brand new tent our 5th night there (no one was in the tent at the time). I wonder if it was the same critter that got the car window.

  30. @moseyingwiththemalys3357 on July 17, 2025 at 12:55 pm

HWY 49 is known as "The Little Dragon". Great on a motorcycle.

  31. @hotelboz on July 17, 2025 at 12:56 pm

Great video, Thanks. We are in Florida, which is like opposite of where and what you are doing. But we hope to do the west coast next year minus the bear.

  32. @Dezhcir911 on July 17, 2025 at 12:56 pm

    Awesome views!

  33. @scottleeper on July 17, 2025 at 12:57 pm

    Pronounced too fa

  34. @lyndasoares8080 on July 17, 2025 at 12:58 pm

49 is one of my very favorite highways!!! However, it’s great because I always drove the Miata on that road!! Too. Much. FUN!!! Plus further north on 49 are some of the best little antique stores ever. If you weren’t in the motorhome you would love it

  35. @meridethhendry5733 on July 17, 2025 at 12:59 pm

Great skiing in Mammoth. Our home away from home for so many years. Great fishing in the summer too!

  36. @johnlee7085 on July 17, 2025 at 12:59 pm

The classic comment on bears is that they operate on smell. While that probably hasn’t changed, what has changed is that the ones around Yosemite have learned that people keep edibles in cars. They’re becoming conditioned.

  37. @Help4the99Percent on July 17, 2025 at 1:00 pm

Listening to a Sierra Club zoom recently I heard the suggestion to spray your car windows with Ammonia to deter bears attacking your vehicles. Anyone have any comments on that idea??

  38. @debbieleeday83 on July 17, 2025 at 1:02 pm

Oh man.. So many bears this Season. Super active as we near Winter. They’ll go for a Gum Wrapper. I love the Mammoth
    LeeVining area. 💕

  39. @michaelzimmer8159 on July 17, 2025 at 1:02 pm

Try Timberline Lodge for your hot toddy

  40. @seanliske2265 on July 17, 2025 at 1:04 pm

I have a hidden jewel right at the entrance to Yosemite. Dry camping, but awesome area right by Fish Camp. Phil if you have a disability of 50% or more, you can get the National Parks pass which includes free admission to all parks. Yosemite is one of favorite spots. Park our fifth wheel and drive into the park.

  41. @trustme7731 on July 17, 2025 at 1:05 pm

Nice video. I saved it in my ‘Places to go’ file.
What are the gas prices and camping fee’s there? ( I have the America The Beautiful lifetime senior pass which I’ve used several times)
Last fall we were at Glacier park. When we left we wandered kinda south southeast and got into the worst smoke I’ve ever seen. Glacier had some too but not this bad. After returning home and after looking closely at our motor home I saw it had turn into a gray/black mess from the smoke. It’s difficult to scrub off and it’s kinda greasy. It still has some on it. I’m going to try 409 on it.
Did you get it on yours?

  42. @lorilust6150 on July 17, 2025 at 1:05 pm

You got the best spot in that campground! Know this area well.

  43. @JonniesJourney on July 17, 2025 at 1:07 pm

A bear kept trying to get into my van on my recent trip to the GSMNP

  44. @adamaroy2354 on July 17, 2025 at 1:11 pm

I just retired from the army and the wife and I are going to make the RV plunge within the next few months. She’s doing the travel nurse thing so we figured this would be a great opportunity to finally do something for a change other than PCS’ing lol. I have so many questions but they’re slowly getting answered by watching an insane amount of YouTube videos. My 13 year old is crazy excited and I’m excited to actually be apart of the family adventures for a change haha. Anyhow maybe we’ll see you guys down the road. Good luck and stay safe!

  45. @brianlykins6663 on July 17, 2025 at 1:12 pm

Great video. It’s a shame you had the smoke.
Guy at repair shop was right, y’all were lucky the bear didn’t get in the car. I’ve seen pictures of interiors that were completely destroyed because they couldn’t or didn’t get out.
We were told in Colorado not to have food in vehicle, but if you had ever eaten inside that the smells were still there. Another person said that the bears just associate vehicles, people to food.
Bright side, better the SUV than the coach !!!! 👍👍😭

  46. @billcupps1481 on July 17, 2025 at 1:12 pm

next time go timr go though oakdale 120 108 lot better

  47. @Debbie_T_FL on July 17, 2025 at 1:12 pm

Another awesome video! Those bears sure can do a lot of damage. I wonder if they ever do that to RV’s? Can’t keep food and good smell’s out of there. Beautiful views, but I wouldn’t like those switchbacks!

  48. @viceskyhawk9944 on July 17, 2025 at 1:15 pm

    Very nice!

  49. @Lavendaraw on July 17, 2025 at 1:17 pm

I do not ski, gave it a try for a bit, but kids and spouse and now grandkids ski and snowboard. If we are staying at resort generally a hot tub or pool I take advantage of, but otherwise, sports bar, fireplace and a book, and often snowshoeing are my friends.

  50. @Markpatrickrich on July 17, 2025 at 1:20 pm

    I enjoy your channel.
