Backpacking Lunch Ideas | What I Take For Lunch & Snacks While Backpacking or Day Hiking

These are some of my go-tos that I always bring for lunch and snack stops while I am backpacking or day hiking. Do not worry, I don’t eat like this when I am off the trail. But these are a win for me on trips as far as convenience, taste, and calories go. I hope this gives you some ideas for your next backpacking or hiking lunch!

Awesome looking snacks… Already showed my snacks so for the main lunch course is usually hard salami and pepperoni rolled up in a tortilla or if I want to take the time a ramen or mashed potatoes .

You have the perfect last name for your passion in hiking/backpacking!! You’ve probably heard it before but you could come up with some funny puns! But anyways, great video, loved the tips and will definitely look into some of these foods, the Stinger waffle looked good!

Those tunas are great hike lunches. I carry a lot of trail mix, granola, jerky, those teensy weensy baby cheeses, apples. On the hike in or for a day hike I’ll throw a sandwich or wrap in my rig. I’m always looking for suggestions though. πŸ€™πŸ»

Sugary snacks are so important. My very first trip more than a single night was in Grandaddy Basin and I just brought mountain house meals. By day 3 I was craving sweets so bad! Okay- maybe they aren’t that important, it was probably just having withdrawals from a sugary American diet. But since then I definitely portion out a little sugar every day. I’ve noticed the same with protein. For the long hikes as long as I give myself a little of something super sweet and something with some decent protein I seem to be okay. And I completely agree with your comment about those dried mangoes.

Thanks for making a backpacking food video! I’m now preparing for my 2 week long hike on the SHT coming later in May. I’ll make a food video before my trip.
