Have all of my camping gesr setup and have scouted different areas for possible camping sites. But Im having a big issue on pulling the trigger and going at it alone, though I really want to. Your video has definitely helped calm my anxiety a lot. Thank you so much!

I wonder if using low volume on an audio book or music would help to keep animals away from tent?
If nothing else it may help me to fall asleep and to not let worrying keep me up.

I like that you are being real about the outdoors. One reason I started my channel was to help women feel empowered.

And always remember that safety is just an illusion. You should feel safe but always be aware that you are not safe. Just to be prepared. Gran do you have a pew pew?

I haven’t done any wild camping. But I would think a good flashlight would go a long way towards having peace of mind at night.

  24. @Sentientheart on July 20, 2025 at 1:07 pm

It’s amazing you have this option, don’t try this in South Africa though.

  25. @rninusa1980 on July 20, 2025 at 1:07 pm

Iโ€™m so very glad I ran into your wonderful channel! I love the outdoors so very much and due to some surgeries, I havenโ€™t been out like that in a long while so Iโ€™ve been actually quite afraid to try it again. I found your advice quite comforting and it is so true to arm yourself with some basic comfort items that serve dual purposes such as staying warm in some clothes you love or having a sleeping bag that is nice and cozy. Thank you again. I will be back!

  26. @dpej5167 on July 20, 2025 at 1:07 pm

The most important advice you gave was to keep your tent absolutely pristine from any type of food odour. I’ve had 2 well-maintained backpacking tents in my life and neither one has ever had any scented product in it ever. No soap no toothpaste no deodorant no hard candy or lozenges, no gum, no makeup, no lotions, no sunscreen, no food, no medication, no cooking equipment, no clothing with food stains, NOTHING with any scent. It’s amazing how little we actually can smell. Animals however will pick up any small scent. Anything with perfumes or food odour should go in your food canister hung in a food pack or into a food locker.
The point about sound being louder at night is absolutely true. I actually recommend earplugs. The likelihood of an animal disturbing you is so small. But your nerves will keep you awake. Earplugs and even a mild sedative will go a long way to ease novice campers.

  27. @EyesOnDaSkies on July 20, 2025 at 1:07 pm

Nope. This woman’s advice is going to get people killed. It’s not safe anymore. It’s a complete roll of the dice. Things are happening in the woods the authorities are keeping silent about for a couple reasons. 1, it’ll hurt the industry. They’ll lose money if people know the truth cuz they’ll stay out of the woods completely. 2, It would cause panic if people knew what’s going on out there. If you insist on putting yourself in danger, at least leave your pets at home cuz they will die trying to protect you or trying to warn you when you don’t listen to them. Guns don’t always work on them and bear spray just angers them. You have a choice. They do not. This is not a joke or hype. This woman has just been lucky or she’s a follower of Christ. These things are terrified of the Holy Spirit so they usually don’t harm us. Laugh if you want. Idc. I know what I’m talking about.

Iโ€™m 46, kids are grown, and Iโ€™m still married but he has a lot of health issues. You give me hope that I will be able to experience more. I went solo camping last Summer for my first time. It was one of my favorite memories. I really enjoyed it. I stayed at Gurnsey Lake in Northern Michigan. Not that far from my home. I kayaked and enjoyed watching the loons fishing with their offspring. โค

I avoid camping next to sex offenders now. I caught a guy at night peek in our tent masterbating and looking at my wife he was a sex offender so i always avoid them people now days

  32. @anonymouslegion4928 on July 20, 2025 at 1:13 pm

TELL A VISION has brainwashed the masses that being in the rural is scary, but cities are where danger is 99% of the time. Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ dwelt in tents in woods so there’s that.

  33. @SlowLivingWithAutism on July 20, 2025 at 1:15 pm

    Excellent tips!
I realize this is an older video but I thought I’d share anyway. On my first solo camping trip, I made the mistake of bringing my 2 little dogs. They hear EVERYTHING and had moments of barking all night long. I got next to no sleep. It was horrible! In their defense, the woods were very alive at night … lots of movement near the tent all night. Several times something was munching right up again the tent.
Thankfully my daughter and her children were scheduled to visit me the very next day, so she took the dogs home to my mom’s so my mom could watch them.
MIND OVER MATTER. What’s real? Great advice. I heard all sorts of things at night, but put my earplugs in and slept great.

I’ve never understood why so many women are terrified of being alone.
Maybe it’s because I’m always alone and a woman and I wanna do the cool stuff too so I just do it.

  43. @WiwerGwirion on July 20, 2025 at 1:30 pm

I’m a 32 yesr old female from the UK so thankfully don’t have to worry about bears or wolves! We do however have big cats. I’ve always loved the outdoors but have spent a long time being too paralysed by anxiety to properly appreciate it the way I’d like to. I’m definitely going to go camping this summer, thank you so much for inspiring me, Wendy. I’ve subscribed to your wonderful channel ๐Ÿ’š๐ŸŒฒ

  44. @Jaynechch on July 20, 2025 at 1:30 pm

Awesome advice. I travel in NZ alone and have built up such a fear of staying in the bush. We donโ€™t have bears or cougars so I feel a little silly. I must say tho that my biggest fear comes from fellow humans that might be out where I am. Listening to you has made me think that I need to be braver. Thanks Wendy โค

I van camped, felt safer with hard sides around me. I had driven all day so i was tired when i went to bed. When i woke up in the morning, I actually slept thru a tornado. Woke up in the morning to see all the tents around me all torn up and abandoned. I was shocked i slept thru it. But glad i was in my minivan and nothing bad happened. I was in Pensacola around Christmas, traveling from Colorado. Used to the cold so weather cold weather wasnt a problem for me. But the waves were looking like they’d meet the back bay, so i left the island i was camping on. Also white sand across the highway started looking like drifting snow. Time to head to higher ground.

  46. @chichita9202 on July 20, 2025 at 1:34 pm

I learnt to sleep in a double hammock that is not stiff and wraps me like a swaddled baby and love it. I don”t know if they make outdoor hammocks like that/ The ones I have seen have the flat like a mattress bottom. I found being wrapped is very soothing and it took a while to build core strength but I find I can also switch positions. I also sleep on my stomach on a normal bed.
