Extremely helpful video! We are taking a 2-year old kid to Acadia. Which trails do you recommend for using a stroller? And which are ok without a stroller? Thank you!

Thank you so much for this video. We’re visiting Acadia for the first time in June and have 3 young daughters. One daughter also has epilepsy and is prone to seizures so we’re constantly looking for child friendly and safer hikes. Your video was perfect 🙂

A couple of notes. First, you will need a reservation to go up Cadillac Mountain this summer. You can ONLY make the reservation on line (see Acadia Park web site) and it costs $6. You can book up to 90 days in advance, but reservations will fill up quickly particularly in July and August. You can only make ONE reservation on any given day. There are separate reservations for sunrise visits and daytime visits. The reservations have an entry time and you have to arrive within 30 minutes of your time, so don’t be late.

Second, A quick stop at the Bass Harbor Lighthouse will likely will likely end in frustration if you go after about noon. The parking area there is small (about 35-40 cars) and the Rangers often meter traffic into the Lighthouse. There is zero parking except at the lighthouse lot – you can not park along the access road.

Another trail very close to Ship Harbor is Wonder Land. The trail is about 300 yards east of Ship Harbor and also goes out to a beach with much easier access to the water. Wonderland is an easier trail than Ship Harbor with more beach access.

A note about Ocean Path. The path is right next to the Park Loop Road for almost its entire length so there will be traffic noise you can’t get away from.

Another easy walk if you are staying in Bar Harbor is Bar Island. Bar Island is one of the islands right at Bar Harbor. The island is linked to Bar Harbor by a bar that you can walk across within two hours of low tide. It is an easy walk with lots of tide pools. The island makes a nice picnic spot. It is a very easy walk. The access is about two blocks from Main street down West street at Bridge street. West street is the street along the waterfront at the end of Main street. Bar Island is in Acadia National Park. Make sure you feed the parking meter with enough to cover the time for the hike (allow 1.5-2 hours with kids). Make sure your return is no more than two hours after low tide or you will be wading/swimming.

Nice video. (Worth mentioning: the Beachcroft trail; the Beehive trail, (neither are stroller-friendly ). I love the Jordan Pond hike. And the jam they serve with the popovers ) 😁

Looks very impressive! Not sure my kids would be so easy to convince to follow a long family hike just yet but with the carrier is definetely possbile.

Looks like great hikes! Will revisit this video for sure when we make our way to Acadia 🙂

One of the most beautiful and informative videos dedicated to Acadia trails – thank you!

  18. @tomstage4906 on December 10, 2024 at 8:44 pm

I agree with your list. However, I would have also suggested Wonderland Trail – an equally accessible trail <1/2 mi NE from the Ship Harbor trailhead on 102A. If you go in August or September you can pick wild blueberries and blackberries to your heart’s content. And if you don’t have purple fingers and tongues by the end of the hike…you haven’t eaten enough.

Hi, we really appreciate your video. We are going to Bar Harbor/Acadia for the first time in about a month. We noticed that you and your family are in what look like winter coats. What time of year was this video shot? What was the tempature like when you were there? Any suggestions as far as what to wear in August? Thanks so much and we love your videos.
