BUDGET DIY MOSQUITO NET FOR TARP CAMPING
Sleeping under a tarp is a lot of fun but not when 1000 mosquitoes are attacking you. So I did a 2-person mosquito net for myself and it was a really easy and cheap project! The materials cost about 9€ and the mesh weights 159 g / 5,6 oz. I used it on my last trip and I really liked it! For these really small bugs you are going to need a denser mesh but with mosquitoes this simple and cheap mesh works like a charm.
The materials you are going to need:
Mosquito mesh rectangle piece 2m x 2,6m
Mosquito mesh triangle piece 140 cm x 120 cm x 10 cm (check the video for the size of the triangle AND you need TWO of these pieces)
Strong ribbon 30 cm
Thinner rubber band 4 m (for the bottom)
Thicker rubber band 1 m (for the hanging guy lines)
2 small pieces of eraser/pebbles etc.
Thread for sewing

Want to try tarp tenting instead of lugging around a 4lb tent, so I bought a Sea to Summit Nano insect shelter that you set up inside/underneath the tarp as per yours. Your’e pretty cool with the DIY skills… If you come to backpack in Canada or the US, though, you need a finer net cause we have…. noseeum’s… and blackflies, they are really tiny and more annoying than mosquitos.

Go to fabrik store and by this voilė or something like that, is used make curtains. No bugs can come thru it.

Great video. I like to make some of my gear too. My favorite is rectangle cutting boards made from thick plastic vinegar bottles. It’s only a temporary recycle until I discard them, but they do the job for quite a while!

Nice tip, I start to use this portable USB lamp for catching mosquitos and for now do the work done. Check my video how it works.

The A-frame (pup tent) tarp shelter is about the easiest to add netting inside. Some of the other tarp tent designs can be a bit more difficult to put up netting. This stretchy, elastic netting looks great! I haven’t seen it before, but looks like it might be good for making the odd shapes to fit other style tarp tents. I’m going to try it, if I can find it.
