Here’s an idea for those glow sticks..make shift night lights! Use an empty cleaned out plastic milk jug filled with water and simply stick an activated glow stick in. You can use a half gallon of smaller sized jug for little ones so they can carry it around. It makes a nice ambiant light and no batteries required. Also cheap enough that you can make one for each kid, just use glow stick in their favorite color so they know it is theirs. It is also a neat ‘craft project’ because during the day you can let them decorate it with stickers or markers or whatever. Non toxic glow in the dark paint is awesome if you can find it for cheap!

I am a virgin camper, this year will be my first year..,we bought a pop up. Anyway, first question why do people do dishes while camping? I get washing pots but why not use paper plates and plastics that can be recycled? Secondly, I’ve found the solar stakes at dollar tree are cute but aren’t very bright. The plain black ones sold at Walmart for $1 aren’t pretty but are a lot brighter. Just an FYI. Thanks for the video 😁

If you camp near a creek, you can put drinks or fruit in those mesh bags to keep them cold. We also love the pop up mesh laundry baskets for clothes and countless other things that need to be contained. We also use lots of solar lights around the campsite for safety and fun. A great bug repellant is a mixture of witch hazel and peppermint oil in a spray bottle. Douse everyone liberally and it feels and smells so good! I work as a nurse at a camp every year and that spray is a huge hit! Love your channel!

I love your video, personality and children. The bug swatters I once thought were unnecessary but last time I was camping I had a couple of wasps pestering me so I’m going to get swatters now. I think using the swatter to gently remove bees is a great idea too. Glowsticks, yes, I need those when camping in the woods to find my tent again. The fan – I also take a fan because it can get sooo hot in a tent, they are lifesavers. I like paperplates too. At a recent festival we used paper plates over the top of a tin plate so we had no washing up except for just wiping our crockery with a tissue and rinsing with kettle water; there were no washing up facilities so paper plates and bowls were a must. Love your suggestions and the ones on screen. Subscribed.

The gold award is the girl scout equivalent please research before you say things in a video😡😡😡😡 I’m a gold award recipient life member girl scout and have been doing boy scouts for 9 years. I took massive offense. Also no fly swatter especially for bees, bees are endangered and kids need to be taught to calmly stand in place and wait for them to fly away. Garden lights take up too much space and aren’t as effective as a lantern. Pool noodles work much better for making gang lines (tent support lines) more viable and safer they are reusable so you only have to buy once and your not replacing them daily decreasing the amount of trash you have to deal with. While it’s great you do this with your family try only making videos that you fully know the subject matter.

We use the glow sticks for the kids AND the dogs. Tying one to the dogs collar allows us to see them when they bounce off into the darkness at night.

  30. Sarah Conklin on September 16, 2019 at 8:18 pm

OH and one thing we do is make our own fire starters. Cotton balls and petroleum jelly.Dip half the cotton ball in the petroleum jelly and toss them in a ziplock baggie. You can find all these at a Dollar Tree all year! You only need one or two, stick them in you fire pit and lite. Also stock up on aluminum foil and duct tape. aluminum foil for cooking..wrap you food in it or cover your grill, also wad it up and clean your grill off. duct tape for a multitude of things, a hole or tear in the tent, a make shift clothes line for drying towels, clothes ect. OH and dont forget baby wipes when you are buying baby powder! I always take baby wipes with me. They are great for cleaning faces and hands, especily after making s’mores LOL or for when you need a fast freshen up when hot and sweaty or first thing in the morning or whenever. OK sorry for the long post but those are a few little tips I have learned over the years that I always do when camping.

Lol!! I sure do hope your kids wont be swatting bees with the flyswatters??? I hope that you meant flies or mosquitos ? Lol!! But if you did mean to say "bees"? I hope you carry an EPI-PEN for stings and are camping close to a hospital incase of an allergic reaction?
I know this video is old and I’m hoping you all had a wonderful camping trip or trips 😊

Depending on where you are geographically, try the 99¢ only stores as well. They have lots of good stuff too.

  49. Debbie L Mitchell on September 16, 2019 at 8:40 pm

Please do not bathe with soap in the rivers and lakes. If you must do so, at least use biodegradable soap not Ivory. Even biodegradable soap is not necessarily environmentally friendly. Many soaps also contain surfactants, which are often toxic to life in the lake, especially microorganisms and invertebrates. So if you must bathe in the river or lake, just use a washcloth & scrub. That’s the recommended procedure.
