You should get in touch with Alton Goods (Quality Australian Company) – it would be cool to see some gear review or brand reviews from your end!

Hiking is not " mentally fatiguing" – it is mentally stimulating and satisfying. That’s why we do it.

All very good points. Especially the β€œnot at home” comment. Not that I post much but even shsring pics can be interpreted as being away.

Great advice Haley. As a hiker who vlogs along the way, pre planning is so important. I’ll gladly subscribe to see more of your videos.

As usual Hayley, you are right on the money and these are wise words worth recalling to front of mind, even for those of us who do solo hike as our default setting.

Nice video, the biggest problem I have is keeping my mind in it, I often dwell on things outside of where I am and what I’m doing. A PLB is an absolute must, I’ve been lucky enough to not have to use one, just remember to self test (if your PLB allows) to make sure it’s working properly before you intend to use it

Wow, those were some great tips. You definitely have to enjoy the time while you’re out there. Thanks for sharing 😊

Great video Hayley. Many of us are nervous about setting off, this helps a great deal.

This is one of the best compilation of advice I’ve seen on preparing for solo adventures. I’ve done a lot of backcountry backpacking and bowhunting across the US, Canada, and South Africa, and the things you cover here are probably the most overlooked aspects of planning a solo trip. When you are on your own in the outdoors staying engaged is largely a mental game. The only way you can stay fully engaged by taking care of all of the details outside the trip.

I don’t really like to go on solo hikes, and sometimes I hate myself for that. One of the reasons is that we have a large population of bears where I live and, somehow, I’m not able to sleep well if I do that. I tried and it’s not really working, but I still have hopes for the future. On the other hand, everything seems more intense when you are on your own and I admit, it can be very rewarding and it can make you grow and to be more confident overall. πŸ™‚

Solo hiking is great, unless something unexpected happens. Then it can be horrible and a bit scary if your new to it. Great tips and advice. πŸ‘

I’m curious – do you have a camera person most the time with you or do you set up and film yourself ? I did notice a shadow of a person and was wondering if you brought someone with you.

I want to add something. Specially as a solo traveler in case you end up in any bad situation try to help yourself at first before waiting for someone to rescue you. Don’t lose time
