Mmmm… Peanut butter and tuna!!!
Why is it Snickers instead of a Payday? Snickers get all yucky in any kind of heat. A Payday has almost the same amount of calories, no cholesterol, and is higher in protein. It’s also more filling and doesn’t leave you with that thirsty feeling that a Snickers will since it has the chocolate though the extra sodium of the Payday if anything, may encourage more drinking. Don’t get me wrong, I love Snickers and is one of the first candy bars I reach for but I don’t get how the Snickers is the end all and be all for backpacking.
Eating is my second favorite thing to do. Thanks.
FUCKING SKITTLES
I can eat atleast 2 mountain house dinners and 4 or 5 oatmeal packets.
Can’t stand! Pop tars.
My fave is 2 pasta sides Alfredo.
And a large chicken pouch.
Holy sugar Batman!
I like Hot tamales, Cadbury Chocolate is the best, Jelly beans are better than skittles, licorice scottie dogs or regular licorice, I like the carnation instant breakfast drinks, strawberry is my fav, frosted strawberry pop tarts too, some beef jerky, flavored nuts, freeze dried ice creams are great, BBQ pop chips, red devil liverwurst, anchovies, sardines, oatmeal, Kodiak grizzly muffins and pancakes
I absolutely love the knorr teriyaki rice sides. And like to eat them with a little chicken or pork .
Dehydrator and vacuum sealer FTW
And then… we add SPAM!
Snickers should sponsor you haha
Ok gottitt thanks for posting these cool tips …this counter top design is annoying..!
Too much plastic….
You can get the little baggies at a craft store
Reminds me of BackpackingAdventures‘ Video 🤔
Powdered egg(+bacon bits)
Oats(+banana chips)
Powdered milk (+hot choc)
PB(powdered)
Trail mix
Multi vit
Nice video, table is distracting. I’ve been doing lots of these for decades, all though the noodle bomb is interesting. For the "clean foodies" this is a non-car camping diet, and you are welcome to go out and forage for your food, and then have the "cleanest" food there is, for the rest of us, calories are calories, are calories. Bringing a 2000 calorie a day diet on a 4000-6000 calorie a day adventure… well do the math. This diet is for those who want to make their objective and return. Some other issues not mentioned in the video; elevation and exposure to the elements. At elevation we are all susceptible to AMS ( acute mountain sickness), with some of the first symptoms being lack of appetite and head aches. If you can’t eat the food you brought or foraged, it’s useless, taste matters. Altitude and exposure to the harsh elements really use a lot of calories, above 10,000 feet you’re burning calories just breathing. Fat becomes the most important food group. It take more calories to digest protein than energy derived from it, our bodies only need about 3-4 oz. of protein dally to build muscle, fat is prolonged energy. So this diet is low in weight and high in calories for a reason.
Ensure with extra calories. Jelly Belly, cashews, sunflower seeds, and dried cranberries.
it’s a lot of processed garbage. i get that you’re looking for calories, but spam, velveeta, pop tarts? it’s like you’re undoing all the good you’re doing for your health by being out in nature with a diet of crap.
Always good entertainment for the trip when TSA finds all the tiny baggies filled with white powder XD
You can buy meal prep bags on Amazon not much bigger than your oatmeal packs. Put in the oatmeal, dried fruit, powdered milk, glob of PB, whatever. Dump in your boiling water and your good to go. All your "extra" ingredients are already in one pack. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B018I0SWOO/ref=ask_ql_qh_dp_hza?th=1
How do u eat that ?most of that looks gross.
Velveeta makes mini blocks of cheese. Small, easily packable rectangles. I like to slice them into a tortilla, wrap in foil and toast in a campfire. SOOoooo good!
plain coffee creamer can be used to sub milk.
What about taking a small thermos or a couple double walled stainless steel bottles, not to cook in (unsafe). but for thermos cooking. Boil the water, add food item to thermos or double walled bottle and wait. would work great for over night to have breakfast ready and when you cook lunch, you could cook dinner at the same time. Might be something to test out, i’ve only done the thermos cooking camping.
Knorr pasta sides with packet or tuna or salmon. Stir in loaded instant mashed potatoes which adds flavor and substance. You’ll be full at least once a day
I like tuna on the trail. I’m diabetic and I don’t want to eat a bunch of junk food. I am researching the healthy choices.
Nothing nutritional here………sugar. Pfffffft. Stick with Mountain House products – Boil water and pour. no mess.
Grew up hiking in norway mountains, breakfast is flourmix with grains + water cook in pan = good breakfast
Dinner high energy rice, basmati is usually good, and just usual dry soup bags.
This is all junk food, so if camping & eating this junk, will bind you up so fast, then you won’t want to walk, as your gut is full of starchy foods.. You will be so constipated, when you do, try to go to the bathroom ( in the woods) you’ll pop a hemroid, just trying to push. Better off packing raisins, peanuts, & peanut butter, with crackers. Slim Jim’s are good also. You don’t want to be weighed down with a bunch of junky foods. You’ll also want to pack a small watering filter, or chlorine drops. A few candy bars is not bad.
A block of Parmesan or Romano cheese last for days and if it dries out boil it add whatever to it. The cheese adds umami savoury flavor.
I feel like you would marry a strawberry if you could
There are not many things in this lot that are even really a food you mention oil processed cheese etc you can really regret this for the time you get to 50 and 60 year old this is just absolute garbage most of this look up Dr greger on YouTube and do yourself a favour and you’ll still be going your hikes when you’re 50 and 60
You could add some protein powder to a lot of these meals. It’s lighter to carry than even the Spam or tuna packets or whatnot.
Not a lot of that was actually food.
Biscuits might work too! With tea! 🤣🤣😂😂🤫😇🙏
And Vodka.
I wouldnt pack hershey or any chocolate bar it would melt
Thank you for all these ideas!
I used to date a girl that was a supervisor at Mountain House. I got all kinds of free meals from her to take with me. Those things are too pricey to purchase.
Usually buy the oatmeal already in a small plastic bowl….just had hot water ,stir , and serve!!
Too much Fantàstic plàstic !
Instant coffee, yuck
Dude…awesome table top! Did you drink all of those?
Good suggestions. Going on several backpack hikes this summer. I’ve given up alcohol, coffee and soda. Get the craving from my system. Don’t want to deal with coffee in the morning. Wake up, eat, pack and go.
I assume you can reuse the cheese mac bowls for your oatmeal..
Strange question though, how long can tortillas (or wraps) last in the heat before they start to go bad?
Bit of a note on those freeze dried fruits, if you open the package before you go you can put three or 4 bags in one before you hit the trail, save space and garabage
You have some really great ideas how ever there is just to much junk food. If you work on eating healthier food with more sustenance to them you won’t need snacks to keep you going.
I take the easy mac cups and empty 2 into a ziplock to cut down on the space. Makes the perfect side for dinner or just a meal in itself.
