You can deter bears from entering camp sites with a portable electric bear fence. Small kit that brings huge peace of mind.

Establish a deterrent perimeter by making a a ring encompassing your campsite 50 ft away….. By peeing everywhere around your campsite…. That’s what the animals do we’re in their neighborhood… Respect the rules and you’ll do fine.
Setting up a tent close to a river could be also dangerous. a safe distance of at least 10m is usually proposed. if mosquitos are disturbing maybe even more

Worst rookie mistake i made when i was a rookie to wild camping. I never truly appreciated the importance of widowmakers. Remember camping once near a stream. Got woken up quite rudely and quickly by a big bang. A tree fell on the bank. Ablut 3 metres from us. We were sorted for firewood that night but swiftly moved the next day. Assumption is the mother of all f**k-ups.
