LONG DISTANCE HIKING GEAR | Wild Camping Gear | Lightweight Wild Camping Kit
With just two days to go before my next long distance hike UK, it’s time to start packing my wild camping gear!
I’ve been asked, as a wild camping female .. what’s in my backpack? After hitting long distance hiking trails for a while now, have I managed to get my base weight of my backpack down?
What lightweight wild camping gear have I picked up along the way? In this video I will be doing a full gear load out, which will show you what to pack for a camping trip, what wild camping essentials have I chosen to upgrade over the years?
My first long distance trail was The West Highland Way, which I completed with no experience, a 20kg pack and a £30 pop up tent! But I still had the most amazing experience!
You do not need really expensive wild camping kit to enjoy yourself, however.. due to a knee injury I sustained on the Snowdonia Way Mountain Route, and some old back injuries .. I have needed to try and get my base weight down over the years.
Many of the items in my packing list I have bought second hand off eBay, and they are fantastic! Sometimes you can grab a real bargain for very little if you know what your looking for 😃
Some of the items I have in my pack for this trip
Tent – Big Agnes Copperspur
Sleeping pad – Robens Trailguard 38
Sleeping bag – Mountain Equipment Helium 600
Water Filter – Katadyn Befree 1 litre
Backpack – Osprey Fairview 55
Camera – I phone 13 pro max
Filming case – Iographer
Tripod – Manfrotto off-road
I hope you have found this video useful, please don’t forget to give it a like 👍🏻 and if you haven’t already… subscribe to my channel

Hi
I recommend the Osprey Exos 58, 2022 version. Enjoyed the video 👍
I don’t hike anywhere anymore without my Donkey Geoff. 🤣 These Sherpas’ have the right idea. 🙂
Great video 😊😊x
I’m so glad I’m not the only one that puts make up on to go hiking!
Very interesting video… only thing I would add would be a small first aid kit, plasters, sling, bandages, antiseptic wipes and/or cream… also wondered if you have ever done, or thought about doing a Q&A video?
Deuter Rucksack, not cheap but quality, make sure it is a woman’s fit. Take the drone, you’ll get some awesome footage. Have a good one. Who knows we may spot you.
About your rucksack. If you ever find hiking equipment to expensive from regular retailers, try online or high street Army Navy Surplus stores around the U.K. They are not as numerous as they used to be as most have become online stores now, but when you do find a rare bricks and mortar store its like an Aladdins cave of hiking treasures. And its all much cheaper, because its not branded.
Good video and looking forward to seeing footage of the Slate Trail! My tent’s quite heavy but it’s going to be some time before I can afford a lighter one! Yours looks like a Big Agnes – I heard good things about them. Enjoy the trail next week!
Hi Kerry, don’t forget your tampons🥰☹️
oh i need one of those straws…i normally carry litres of water esp in summer..
Excellent review of your pack out. Good presentation and the portable potty looks good even though the statement of “ the wthe opening does not look big enough” 😆
Ah you’ll do great 👍 the climbs aren’t too strenuous especially with the extra 2 days you’re taking than me I reckon take the drone n take turns carrying it
Great video! I always like to see what gear others carry for wild camping on a multi-day hike. Thanks for the tips and good to see different kit to what I generally use! 😊
"Struggles" 😂 more like loses the full plot haha x
Well done x loved this 🤗
Happy New Year Kerry.. Safe and happy travels for the year ahead.. Regards Mick.. X
Fantastic review my friend, fantastic gear! You are definitely ready for multi-day hiking.
Battery packs and solar panels?
How do you charge everything?
Cos the iPhone don’t last 8days…
Hi Kerry, great insight into your hiking gear I think you will wet your self laughing when trying to use the pee bottle! Looking forward to the next video take care you two.
Hi Kerry, just watched this again, yes loved it for your tips on losing weight on your back, being Mr sensible, I’d say two walking poles, 2 is 1, 1 is none, if it breaks.
My big appreciation for you is you mentioned the word ‘ tampon’ respect, yes I’m a bloke but I know what it’s all about, my ex had irregular periods so spares were always carried, you are just the first person doing a kit/ packing video that has mentioned this important little item ❤️❤️👍👍☕️
8kg that’s good that leaves you 10kg for jelly belly jelly beans a finger of fudge a couple of twix and a bag of maoams
Heh… just use a paper cup when it rains.. no need to buy more plastic 🙂
Nice video, I just failed my first long distance hike, The Great Glen, because of pack weight and the worst blister I have had in my life! I am already planning my return and videos like this are a big help. I found your channel after my misadventure ,unfortunately, but have really enjoyed watching all your adventures! Ps, after you give the pee bottle a try you can use it as a hot water bottle for those chilly nights lol
Great video! Crow✌️
Oh wait a minute u need a good spanking but don’t know if could deal the beast afterwards ,,,worth a try right
..cool video keep up the great content.. Thank you…
Enjoyed that Kerry, always nice to see what other folk carry. I live life on a tight budget as well – managed to get my Osprey Exos 48 rucksack cheap a few years ago and it’s served me well, also the 2nd hand market can be invaluable. I use an Atmos 65 for the winter months but it’s heavy… got that on the 2nd hand market. The 2 things you can’t really skimp on are a good sleeping bag and mat. Impressive weight for your cook system – 280g!! Wow! What make is it? Will defo have to check that out, thank you 🙂 And for the overnight en-suite situation…..I use a screw-top 1L plastic container I bought from Home Bargains for £1, it works a treat, wash it out the next day and you can store your loo roll in there. Yip it’s a bit bulky but if you utilise the space when it’s not in use then it’s doing 2 jobs lol. Kitchen roll is always a must with me, I always pack a half dozen squares – any small spillage and bingo 😉 TFS 🙂
I’d definitely ditch that backpack try looking at the osprey exos
Real lightweight for 2 person tent and roomy as well and the colour very stealthy as well. A hiking pole is a must I find now, takes so much pressure off your knees, hips and back and you seem very well organised, not even going to wonder about the razor . I bought Mrs Metalman one of those Shewees but she has never used it and refuses point blank to ‘go’ outdoors, resulting in many super fast power walks back to the car…Unbelievable the weight saving you are now making from your WHW trip and to be honest, I would leave the drone, given the forecast. Take care and fingers crossed for good weather for you both 🌞cheers Alan
Fab video!! A couple of things 1 take the drone!! 2 did you shave any weight off your original hikes in 2020? Anyone that knows you knows not to mess with the make up! 😘🤣😂
What I really love about this video is that you don’t have to be mega rich to go hiking & wild camping. You don’t have to get all the fashionable gear, the latest and best expensive gear & spend £500 to £800 for the best outdoor tent you can’t possibly afford, after all, nature’s beauty is free.
I do except that if you can afford it then you do get better quality and lighter equipment but that shouldn’t stop you going, get what you can afford and get out there and build your equipment up slowly as you get to know what you need.
Nice to see you get your kit down to 17.7lbs, as they reckon 20lbs for a woman and 25lbs for a man, although I try to keep my backpack weight down to a women’s weight of less than 20lbs, but then again, I don’t carry make-up (or shaving gear).
MASLOWS hierarchy of needs.
Food, warmth and shelter.
If you can get a good night’s sleep you can face anything the next day.
Nice one Kerry. After time you get the whole thing working. I have real problems keeping weight down and not just with my pack, but I have some great working gear. Have a great trip 😀
Good to see others who don’t throw the credit cards at life and max out, it’s about getting out that counts. Wishing you all the best of British. To drone or not to drone is indeed the question. Or suffer the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune of getting it soaked.
Decathlon do some own brand rucksacks branded as Forclaz , WOMEN’S TREKKING 45+10L BACKPACK MT900 UL looks like it may suit your needs.
Use the tent wee pot with a female urinary device (like a she-wee), and your aim will improve 100%. Practice first in the shower. Adult female potty training of sorts. 😂
Great video , always fun to watch 🙏🥂
great video! i think you will wee all over the tent lol
Sorry dizzzzy loved the video and I have so many questions/comments but I am half cut. I am going to have to watch it again and and get my questions in later. hope you have an amazing hike on the slate trail
Naturehike Rock Series Backpack 40/60+5L may also suit comes in 2 sizes, available from Collins outdoors.
You’ve gotta put your war paint on lass me mum won’t leave the house without it 😀👍
Got to be the gosma gear g4 20 backpack. Look on ultralight gear. I just got mine and it’s as good as everyone says
I used to love a lot of pockets but then kept forgetting where thing were. Instead of lots of pockets why not try loads of different dry bags. I still think that tent it looks amazing. I have never understood everyone that takes loads of pillows I just use my clothes too. That’s an impressive weight you have it sussed. I still carry a 20+kg rucksack and will never learn. Great wee video I love seeing what other people carry. I like the way you included clips from previous videos. Enjoy the slate trail.
Love your fanny pack
This is getting good reviews ( do a 50L version as well), and relatively cheap. Decathlon UK .

Another great video, I enjoyed that. Lots of useful advice, good to hear what you have to say regards those gear choices, based on your experiences on the trail. Personally I would take the drone, and split the weight between the 2 of you, however I won’t be carrying that weight, so it’s up to you guys, either way will be great, drone or no drone. As always though, many thanks for the content, really enjoyable, and looking forward to the Snowdonia vids soon 😁
Always great to see ya on You Tube , very interesting, you ever thought about the Camel type water system I got a good wee one out of ASDA many years ago. Of course depends on your gear . Good luck on your next hike. Things a bit down here my wee mammy fell and broke her hip. So hiking is far from my mind. Will check out your wee business Good Luck Derek xx
Enjoyed seeing this insight. 👍🏻
For a new pack, I have to give a shout out for Atom Packs. Lightweight, tonnes of pockets (including water bottle pockets on the shoulder straps), different back/waist sizes available, and customizable.
Downside, they’re not cheap 🙁 but I know they have worked with other YouTubers, so might be worth reaching out. 🤞🏻💜
A girls got to take what a girls got to take, but a razor I did find funny😂. Your smash it medals I liked a wee fridge magnet would be good too.
