How To PICK The RIGHT LURES For Bass Fishing!

How To PICK The RIGHT LURES For Bass Fishing!

How To Pick Your Fishing Lures (Step By Step)-
1. Match the hatch: You’ve gotta throw what they are eating
2. Know what your bass are doing: Where they “should be” on the lake, what they should be acting like, etc. This comes with experience and learning about bass
3. Watch the weather: High pressure and cold shuts bass down, so you must be more subtle with your presentations. Rising temps and low pressure, bass feed heavily. Hot hot hot and any pressure, bass feed shortly, then chill.
4. Watch the wind: If it’s windy, you’re gonna have to throw lures that make more vibration/move more water, due to the fact that the wind is causing more disturbance in the water. If it’s calm, the fish can sense your lure from further away, and so you don’t need to throw a lure with tons of vibration.
5. Notice the water clarity: If it’s dirty, throw colors such as black and blue, chartreuse, clown, etc. If it’s clear, throw natural like green pumpkin, watermellon, clear/shad
6. Throw lures that match the cover and structure of your pond/lake: If you’re fishing around wood, don’t pick all treble hook lures, that’s silly. If you’re fishing around open sand, don’t throw a lure that is super weedless, as that is also super silly.

Nevada is kind of a challenge. Limited places to fish for bass, and not all the water has shad, bluegill, etc… mostly trout. muddly bottows on most of our water. I do okay, but if you have any advice, I would love it. Thanks!!!

  8. @deadspace2121 on December 10, 2024 at 9:32 pm

Either have multiple setups with different lures or get good with tying knots to start. I personally started with one set up and had to get good with making knots, then got multiple set ups.

  9. @impossibleisaac on December 10, 2024 at 9:33 pm

Tyler, so if a pond only has bluegill and 5 people on the bank are throwing bluegill colors, do u think it would be good to throw shad colors because everyone is throwing the same thing?

Hello I’m from Maryland and in the ponds I fish it’s really tough right now because the fish aren’t on beds yet but there’s like no structure for them to be on and I don’t really know what to use. Could you give me some tips for what to use and where to fish it

I’m also new to using crank baits, I have a variety of them but not entirely sure how to use them correctly to a point where I don’t snag. I’m the definition of a snagQueen lol I don’t try it but unfortunately my luck with any lure, I get snagged somehow even if it’s weedless.

  25. @calebpartenheimer7636 on December 10, 2024 at 9:54 pm

Well as far as matching the hatch, a creature bait could represent a bluegill, crawfish or whatever else.

I got 5 bass the other day when I switched to a black/blue curly tail worm.

What is that supposed to represent?

  26. @remaudy6409 on December 10, 2024 at 9:55 pm

3 days of going through my entire tackle box, location after location, to catch a dinker today

  48. @JesusLarsen-s8q on December 10, 2024 at 10:20 pm

Nice tips! Personally, I believe it’s all about trial and error. Every angler has their own preferences and techniques when it comes to lure selection. As long as we keep experimenting and adapting to different fishing situations, we’ll eventually discover what works best for us. Happy fishing!
