A bit late, but congratulations on the new addition to your family. 1+1=3 Great video! Thanks! I’ve visited Australia twice; for a month in 2023. Such a beautiful special place. I haven’t made it to NZ yet, but really want to even more after viewing your adventure there. How great it’s only a three hour flight for you to get there. (Unlike the 16 hours for me!) Adventure on & be safe!

Beautiful God’s Creation! Blessed to live here, NZ.

  35. @bigtee5248 on December 10, 2024 at 8:10 pm

What stunning footage. I see I’m 8 months too late to comment but answering your question Māori used either red ochre or balm made from the crushed leaves of the Ngaio plant to repel mosquitos and sandflies.

Yes, as a Māori I too feel it’s such a shame NZ didn’t have a variety of native land mammals especially for tourists to enjoy on top of the scenic landscape. The only native land mammal is the Kunekune, a Māori pig. Māori did have Kuri a native dog but they were unfortunately breed out with dogs brought by european settlers. But yeah, you’d be lucky if you spotted NZ skinks and geckos or weta a giant beetle.
Anyway, thanks for the great video 🤘

  36. @hamishcorkill5663 on December 10, 2024 at 8:11 pm

This is almost as beautiful as Otara

  37. @trapstar885 on December 10, 2024 at 8:12 pm

Nice video what camera do you use ?

  38. @DigitalMaori on December 10, 2024 at 8:13 pm

So to deal with the sandflies we (Maori) had insect repellent 🤣 It’s called the Ngaio tree and you walked past it a few times. You just rub the leaves all over & it keeps them away. Good to know for next time

  39. @mattgordon9179 on December 10, 2024 at 8:15 pm

Nice one scotty. Well being in the Southern hemisphere, that part of NZ is similar to southern Chile. Same kind of rain forest and rivers and ocean. I don’t know about the Sand Flies though 🙂

  50. @teuilagracetualaulelei1609 on December 10, 2024 at 8:30 pm

Thank you, such a stunning trip & marathon effort! Yes, we are spoilt for safety here (unlike Oz) no poisonous snakes, etc. trekking through the bush isn’t a matter of life & death, the weather would be the biggest danger.
