I got some steel toe Red Wing logger boots. They weigh about 3-4 lbs each. Gets your legs in shape. You can’t be a balerina Tinkerbell prancing around in the wilderness.🦟🏕

  2. @nancytrekker on December 10, 2024 at 8:07 pm

I’m neither in the trail running camp nor the boot camp.😅 I prefer men’s Keen hiking sandals. Only when the weather is cooler, I’ll revert to my boots. && Sport tape is always in my bag

  3. @ipercalisse579 on December 10, 2024 at 8:08 pm

One of the most stupid hacks i keep hearing from hickers. USE RUNNING SHOES INSTEAD OF BOOTS. Don’t! Your feet are much more protected with boots, it is imperative you don’t get your foot twisted or injured while walking a long distance.. you feet are the first most important organ is what carries you on.
    So, don’t be moronic

  4. @tri_crisis_tc721 on December 10, 2024 at 8:09 pm

Im sporting military gear and the boots are my best friends

  5. @cliftonsargent1572 on December 10, 2024 at 8:09 pm

I disagree about the boots, I did pyramid peak in hiking shoes and my ankles were killing me, with my danners RAT boots it was a breeze

  6. @CB19087 on December 10, 2024 at 8:09 pm

Only stupid people would think a trainer is better than a boot 😂 horses for courses!

  7. @jeffreyvasquez3911 on December 10, 2024 at 8:11 pm

I love my not heavy boots…everything else was good advice.

  8. @11broomstickk on December 10, 2024 at 8:12 pm

Hiking without ankle boots in many parts of the country is a ticket to free lyme disease.

Vasoline for chaffing if you have room to store it, little goes a long way lol

This video is a tongue-in-cheek joke, right?

  14. @Thekoffrekup on December 10, 2024 at 8:17 pm

I never really did like this YouTuber… I think he’s trying too hard to make a name for himself, but he sounds ridiculous in the process. Only a genuine stupid person would recommend shoes over hiking boots. I always see this guys videos, I always thumbs down it only because of how stupid he sounds and speaks, and his constant begging for subscribers… And if you block me, I’ll keep thumbs down on other accounts

  15. @mjommjom2733 on December 10, 2024 at 8:17 pm

As someone with a ankle injury i need big heavy boots that come till above my ankle or i wil have to go to the hostpital again

  16. @cowsruleJordan on December 10, 2024 at 8:21 pm

    Stupid people?

  17. @The.Scottish.duncan on December 10, 2024 at 8:23 pm

  19. @dependablesheep7434 on December 10, 2024 at 8:25 pm

This guy is a moron, his advice is huge hit or miss and not even his own most of the time

  20. @glenacord on December 10, 2024 at 8:26 pm

Lots of folks here dissing trail runners. I love my Hoka Speedgoats for 95% of my hiking, even on rough terrain. Works great for me; up Aasgard Pass in the Enchantments and many other trails. The only time I opted for ankle-high boots in my recent memory was for climbing Mt. St. Helens because of all the sharp lava rock.

  21. @commonstreetrat on December 10, 2024 at 8:32 pm

Deodorant works surprisingly well with helping chafing. Just put a TON of it on. Genuinely mine goes away within 30 hours

  22. @apsynto on December 10, 2024 at 8:32 pm

Ah another idiot who preaches trailrunners as be all end all. These are usually the people who spend thousands on their ultralight gear because they are incapable of carrying anything more than 15kg. I tried Salomon and Lowa trailrunner. They ended up spending reato pf their life as the most expensive garden shoes ever as doing a hard days hike with them left me sore and with blisters.
Ill stick to my Hanwag mountain boots. Summer and winter.
Also, my boots have about 2500km on them after being re-soled twice and still have plenty of life in them. How long will your trail runners last?

  23. @charliemarch2902 on December 10, 2024 at 8:32 pm

    Stupid reel

  24. @honorableundead2273 on December 10, 2024 at 8:33 pm

After rolling my ankles i went back to boots. Also they make lightweight military boots woth all terrain tread if you really care

  25. @BBQDad463 on December 10, 2024 at 8:33 pm

My Merrell Switchback GTX boots (big, heavy, over-the-ankle, discontinued years ago) have saved my feet and ankles countless times.
Keep the campfire small? I keep my campfire non-existent. I would not light a campfire unless I needed to boil water for purification reasons, to dry out soaked clothing, or to prevent hypothermia. Too much danger, too much work, too much damage to ultralight gear.
I was amazed by how rapidly a fire spread from one very small campfire in the Bob Marshall Wilderness. Had my son-in-law and I not been there, the fire-makers would have been overwhelmed and there was a good chance that The Bob would have suffered a serious forest fire. It was a near thing. Please do not build a fire unless it is an absolute, life-or-death necessity.

  26. @ImTheDudeMan471 on December 10, 2024 at 8:35 pm

I hope someday a hiker invents bigfoot shoe runners. So it leaves bigfoot prints all the way from Mexico to Canada.

  27. @elliemccarthy5672 on December 10, 2024 at 8:36 pm

I’m all for lightweight footwear but anyone with hypermobile ankles knows that hiking without ankle support is a set up for a miserable hike filled with rolled ankles

  28. @mandeepsamra5981 on December 10, 2024 at 8:36 pm

Yeah I’ll stick to my high ankle La Sportiva for rough trials and low ankle merrel’s for light trials. But thanks dingus with the no support trial runners.

  29. @themadhanna on December 10, 2024 at 8:36 pm

Big, heavy, steel cap boots are best in Australia. They can protect you from snakes, spiders, and drop-bears. They’re also great for punting crocs in the face!

  30. @bruno4299 on December 10, 2024 at 8:40 pm

Trail running shoes are popular with hipsters who never leave the trail. I see these guys and all I can think of is a gentrified version of hiking.

  31. @brettridings5594 on December 10, 2024 at 8:42 pm

4 tips that only stupid hikers don’t know and one tip that only stupid don’t think is entirely subjective.

  32. @hannielvenzor1617 on December 10, 2024 at 8:43 pm

That sounds like Michael Scott from the office

  33. @Dimitrij088 on December 10, 2024 at 8:44 pm

The shoes you wear vary on the weather and terrain.

  34. @highdesertforester on December 10, 2024 at 8:46 pm

Good supportive boots are the way to go. I had to get a broken ankle to learn that

  35. @lisacronin9333 on December 10, 2024 at 8:46 pm

Gonna disagree about the heavy boots. Backpacking in the mountains, I would not wear trail running shoes.

  36. @papashield3 on December 10, 2024 at 8:46 pm

Slightly faster step is not a good exchange for ankle injuries.

  37. @waterbox4202 on December 10, 2024 at 8:47 pm

I used to be a trail runners/fabric-upper-hiking-boots kind of guy until cactus spines pierced half an inch deep over my feet (I live near the Andes and spines are all over the place). Quality mil issue jungle boots are light, breathable and protect your feet and some of your ankle

  38. @GingerWildcat on December 10, 2024 at 8:48 pm

Use Nexicare tape from Ingles Market. Ot doesn’t come off.

  39. @g4do on December 10, 2024 at 8:49 pm

I agree with everything… except the shoes . Do what works for you when it comes to footwear.

  40. @williambranham6249 on December 10, 2024 at 8:49 pm

Kyle I enjoy all your videos but the boot thing seems bit off.
I keep waiting for the Marines to ditch the heavy boot for trail runners. Don’t see it happening.

  41. @UtahWaterLog on December 10, 2024 at 8:50 pm

Leukotape is better than KC Tape.

  42. @nictak562 on December 10, 2024 at 8:52 pm

"only stupid people don’t know"…"might work"?

  43. @walkyourdog6584 on December 10, 2024 at 8:53 pm

    Stupidest video ever.

  44. @СофияВасилькова-ы1ц on December 10, 2024 at 8:53 pm

These video came out a year ago, but im still gonna say. I backpack in mountains. And trail running shoes are great thing for places where you have trail. However trail is rarely an option. So you need boots for slippety bolders steams, to make snow steps, on wet grass, etc. Wherever good grip is needed. Everyone already said about ankle support, but i will remind you about finger protection. I would prefer my feets to be in boots then in trail running shoes, when a random rock decides to fall on them.
P.s. english is not my native language, so sorry for mistakes

  45. @zacharysmith7872 on December 10, 2024 at 8:55 pm

Try packing with your small kids that nets you a 50lb pack with a starting bodyweight of 225 and get back to me on wearing trail running shoes.

  46. @hazenewman3558 on December 10, 2024 at 8:56 pm

    Dead down and detached 🙂

  47. @Machetepacks on December 10, 2024 at 8:57 pm

I carry moleskin for blisters and dry clay for chafing

  48. @gcruishank9663 on December 10, 2024 at 8:57 pm

Yeah big HEaVY boots aren’t your friend but there are boots that’s are fairly light and depending on the conditions your hiking in they could be a better choice. Hiking in really wet, colder conditions on lots of rocky areas , having to walk through streams, boots become your friend quick.

  49. @Andrew-nb6pe on December 10, 2024 at 8:57 pm

    this video sucks

  50. @Crazyoldman84 on December 10, 2024 at 8:59 pm

I wear both different times of the year and depending on trail conditions and like both. If i had to choose one its definitely boots for ankle support and toughness. Also many boots are designed light weight these days.
