I must’ve done something wrong because I threw my frog togs in the first trash can I found when I hiked the ouachita trail.

Actually the fastest way to filter drinking water is by using a lifestraw

  6. @teelamorissette5615 on April 2, 2025 at 1:33 am

They are the best sock period.

  7. @gwahl0725 on April 2, 2025 at 1:35 am

Bro out here literally talking about the basics

  8. @lanecountybigfooters on April 2, 2025 at 1:35 am

Grayl purifiers are fastest. Agree with the poles, Darn Tough socks, canister stove and Frogg Toggs rain jacket. Get these things! Sawyer is pretty good, too, and much lighter.

  9. @GabagoolFool on April 2, 2025 at 1:37 am

I find squeezing a smart water bottle with a sawyer to be super annoying and ineffective with how the water bottle bends when trying to squeeze water out

  10. @bigoneish on April 2, 2025 at 1:37 am

Why tf you filtering bottled water

  11. @thewildbean2367 on April 2, 2025 at 1:40 am

My sawyer squeeze is extremely slow and itā€™s only been used once

  12. @josephspruill1212 on April 2, 2025 at 1:42 am

Frog togs tare to easy for me.

  13. @kaitlynchermak6488 on April 2, 2025 at 1:44 am

Love that youā€™re repping a 46 climbs shirt Kyle!!

  14. @kristinescream793 on April 2, 2025 at 1:44 am

Iā€™ve upgraded most my gear to UL but I still havenā€™t switched my stove to canister or my filter to sawyer. I like being able to service my gear on trail, not worry about freezing conditions or elevation and not continuously having to buy fuel canisters.

  15. @Colby168 on April 2, 2025 at 1:44 am

Wellā€¦I was wrongā€¦thought you going to say #1 LMNT šŸ˜‚

Why do you look so different in this video? Hell, you even sound totally different. Weird.

  17. @ImperatorNaily on April 2, 2025 at 1:46 am

Check out Silverlight socks. State of the art Socks. Muchbether then DTs

  18. @christopherberry8519 on April 2, 2025 at 1:49 am

It’s bone dry here for 10 months of the year, everything is a fire hazard – EVERYTHING you suggested just doesn’t apply! That’s what I love about hiking. It’s never the same anywhere else. Here you want 2 pairs of light socks for blisters, low cut shoes as they keep grass seeds out better than boots, lightweight water bottles, mylar blankets for shade (yes, trees are scarce) and eat salted nuts for energy and electroltes – so no stoves!

  19. @undeadly on April 2, 2025 at 1:50 am

I had ok luck with the sawyer, but my Katadyn had been way better, way faster, way more convenient

  20. @damnitman3170 on April 2, 2025 at 1:53 am

Point 6 makes some good socks also, I put 800+ miles on a pair before they showed any thin spots. Contacted them and they shipped me a new pair.

  21. @Watcher413 on April 2, 2025 at 1:53 am

Danish Endurance socks are so much better by leaps and bounds

  22. @edfody5369 on April 2, 2025 at 1:54 am

    folding camp chair!

  23. @FloresPrometheus on April 2, 2025 at 1:55 am

Darn tough sock are my go-to socks at this point for everything and I usually give them out every Christmas as gifts (but I doubt people realize how cool a $20 pair of socks is)

  24. @markwalz5692 on April 2, 2025 at 1:55 am

My Frogg Togg jacket didn’t last a week.

  25. @jeffreycarman2185 on April 2, 2025 at 1:57 am

My first set of ā€œtrekking polesā€ were downhill ski poles. I got some ski poles for a couple bucks from a thrift store that were the correct length for my use. I then removed the snow baskets, and the plastic handles. I then wrapped the top (where the handle is) in handlebar tape meant for the drop bar bicycle handlebars. They worked really well, didnā€™t weigh much of anything and were extremely durable (I used them for self-arrest glissading with no issue). I did have to bend them back into shape a time or two.

  26. @MonkeNinjaFighter on April 2, 2025 at 2:00 am

Iā€™m literally wearing those exact darn tough socks right now

  27. @mankokennewick1740 on April 2, 2025 at 2:02 am

The socks, the rest of them you don’t need..or rather you can do better

  28. @petervallario6186 on April 2, 2025 at 2:03 am

#1- how have you backpacked without a filter?
    #2. Personal preference
#3. Personal preference (personally hate darn tough)
    #4. Better stoves for backpacking
#5. Dont buy a frogg toggs for the love of god. They are EMERGENCY rain gear. Its not meant for everyday use. You can get a better jack for just as cheap that packs smaller.

I understand your video but this is all personal preference. As an experienced backpacker youre just labeling basic hiking necessities that have hunderds of varieties.

  29. @Mimilikesstuff on April 2, 2025 at 2:03 am

I have all these things. I feel so smart.

  30. @n0dedotorg on April 2, 2025 at 2:03 am

Darn Tough don’t fit me right. Feels small even in size XL (I’m a US size 12). Smartwool fits right.

  31. @vieuxacadian9455 on April 2, 2025 at 2:06 am

    5 extra magazines .

  32. @kamakaziozzie3038 on April 2, 2025 at 2:07 am

Mind blown! I thought Kyle hated hiking

  33. @Lousysuperior on April 2, 2025 at 2:09 am

Claiming that sawyer filters are the ā€œeasiest and most effectiveā€ filters is a wild claim. Iā€™d definitely never go for a sawyer filter when brands like katadyn and platypus have much higher flow rates and are much higher quality.

If you love sawyer just say itā€™s because itā€™s cheap. Because thatā€™s the only reason Iā€™d ever use one

  34. @disdurbed100 on April 2, 2025 at 2:10 am

Frog toggs can go round for round with any other nice gear tbh. I like their stuff a lot more than many of the boujee options because of how basic they are and how common too. Any Walmart has them and they fit great over any clothing

  35. @EricWeeden on April 2, 2025 at 2:12 am

Those are all good things to buy.

  36. @nagaviper1169 on April 2, 2025 at 2:14 am

Sorry frog toggs are just not tough enough.

  37. @guillermoruiz831 on April 2, 2025 at 2:14 am

    Something against the bear

  38. @aylashank on April 2, 2025 at 2:15 am

I wish Sawyers were more available in Canada…it and FroggToggs are on my get asap list, have the others and agree! All great

  39. @joshjspice on April 2, 2025 at 2:15 am

Where you been the past 15yrs? This is a flashback.

  40. @MountainsPlanez on April 2, 2025 at 2:15 am

Yay, I have all the basics, to the forest we go!!!!

  41. @mg7096 on April 2, 2025 at 2:16 am

Great list! Have you tried the Befree filter cap? It’s better than the sawyer in my personal opinion.

  42. @andrewquick121 on April 2, 2025 at 2:17 am

I use hollow brand socks, froggs and toggs are super nice, I have yet to get a canister stove I usually pack trail snacks and eat meals at the fires for when I stop to sleep, and trekking poles are a phenomenal investment I agree with this video 100%

  43. @Gmail.com1686 on April 2, 2025 at 2:19 am

Sometimes the most expensive gear isnā€™t the best gear,I learned that on a few hikes .šŸ˜Š

  44. @DenzilRedden-tz6jj on April 2, 2025 at 2:19 am

I work outside. Logging and tree work usually deep in the woods. Frogg Toggs have saved the day more times then I could possibly count. They are fairly affordable and will literally keep you bone dry. !!!100% WORTH IT!!!

  45. @fire7side on April 2, 2025 at 2:21 am

You save 3 minutes with a canister stove boiling water compared to alcohol. People that like them are the ones who don’t stop and smell the roses, just count the miles.

  46. @garymoore3446 on April 2, 2025 at 2:22 am

Sawyer is time consuming get you a Geo pump water purifier

  47. @ez7977 on April 2, 2025 at 2:23 am

    Katadyne Befree is way better!

  48. @stephanmedlin7323 on April 2, 2025 at 2:24 am

Sawyer water filters are not the easiest and quickest way to filter your water

  49. @DRoche911 on April 2, 2025 at 2:24 am

100% on the tracking poles and darn tough socks. I mean, how can you mess up with socks? They have a lifetime guarantee.

  50. @LansingLawnServiceLLC on April 2, 2025 at 2:25 am

Say got, ā€œgutā€, say gotten, ā€œguttenā€, oh boy. Itā€™s aboot to go down.
