I’ve always had a hard time stringing my line through the guides but that tip will make my life easier, thanks Alvin

Alvin, Saint Lefty Kreh showed me how to put my fly in a guide and loop the leader around the reel seat like you demonstrated. Then he showed me a trick. When the line is pulled off the reel seat, hold the rod parallel to the water and smack the back of the rod. The fly pops off the guide, falls in the water and you’re good to go.

Great tips! I like the hat trick & fly hooked to the stripping guide with leader wrapped around the reel. I will take all the tips that will stop me from struggling that I can get!

I did think everyone knew about stringing the fly rod up by doubling over the fly line pushing the loop through the guides.
And what I do with my flyrod wh moving Is pretty much the same. Except I will often break the rod in half and keep them together with a Velcro tie. That way I have only half a rod to keep out of the bushes, away from car doors, etc.

    Thanks

When putting a hook in your stripping guide, never put it in the guide, put it in anchor. The barb can moor the guide causing line frey.

    This guy is awesome! 👏 👏 👏

  18. @billlayer5117 on January 11, 2025 at 9:40 pm

I always use your last tip on where to hook the fly and have found you usually don’t have to unhook the fly after taking the loop off the real, just give the rod a tap and the fly will drop off the guide😉

I swear I’ve lost my line while running it threw the guided to many times to tell you. 🤦‍♂️thank for the tip

  20. @justinbennett8914 on January 11, 2025 at 9:47 pm

I’ve got one for you Alvin. I’ve had times where I know that I’ve threaded through straight but after fishing a while, I’ve noticed that my line is wrapped around one of the rod sections between two guides. I have no idea how this happens. Any tips or advise to fix this weird line wrap without having to pull the line out of the guides and rethread it?

  21. @kingfisherguideservices4600 on January 11, 2025 at 9:48 pm

Great points Alvin. I do store my rigged up rods the way you suggested when traveling to fishing spots. I attach the hook on the guide foot instead of the insert. I’ve seen customers damage their line or guide insert by hooking it on the insert. Which of course causes problems down the road or river will you! Great videos BTW Tight Lines!

    The struggle is reel 🙂

  23. @4492573 on January 11, 2025 at 9:52 pm

Better to put the hook on the guide frame not in the actual eye of the guide.

  24. @jaredtandle2596 on January 11, 2025 at 9:54 pm

Excellent advice. The info is all over but if you haven’t heard any of this, it’s a game changer.

I really like the hat idea!

  28. @kirkstark3870 on January 11, 2025 at 10:01 pm

great demonstration, I taught my wife and kids all of these in the back yard before they went on the stream

  29. @brian_onthewater on January 11, 2025 at 10:03 pm

WELCOME ABOARD THE STRUGGLE BUS!!! THIS IS YOUR Captain speaking!! Great tips, here’s two. Cheep dollar store/walmart pop up laundry basket for a stripping basket!!! I use a crown royal regal apple bag for my fly reel and clip it to my rod case with a caribeaner! Keeps me from getting to the river without the reel……yea it sucks
