Im a beginning backpacker and I have bought a bunch of things from sierra. Its like the tj max version of rei. I have bought a lightweight tent from there for $35 and It looks exactly like the one youre using, I actually got caught in a really hard thunderstorm, That tent is water resistent but it ended up soaking through the outside and flooding my floor. I was able to finish my camping trip but it definitely wasnt the most ideal. So i went back after and i found a 100% waterproof lightweight tent with a separate rainfly for only $40, though the weight did go from 4lbs to 7lbs for the weight but i dont regret it. I have bought an inflatable sleeping pad from there which ive used on multiple camping trips but it works pretty good and pretty comfortable but not super wide. An inflatable camp pillow which was about the size of the sleeping pad and wasnt the best but again it worked well for $10. On my last trip there i bought a really compact camping pillow which is so small it was $16 and i havent tried it yet but that saves alot of space for my other gear. Ive bought plastic plates, forks, flashlights, biodegradable wipes, butane, and even a mini camping chair, which isn’t super light but its probably one of my favorite camping luxuries. I have probably bought even more. Also my sleeping bag is from walmart and i bought a $25 pack of 2 pots, a camping stove, and silverware and cleaning cloth and it was my favorite investment. I used the coleman one you showed before but for backpacking theres no way you want to bring them and my new stove was the size of my palm. All of my gear either from walmart or sierra were all pretty cheap but ive taken them on multiple trips and it was so comfortable. Mind you carrying all i just said in one backpack, which mines a 50L osprey so very high end and i splerged on that part but comfortabilty is key. Im still a beginner to backpacking but that store has helped me camp without breaking the bank because rei is crazy expensive. If you have a sierra near by you should def shop there its amazing. I know you said you read all your comments but this video is a year old and its so long i guess i just wanted to share that with you. So i hope you see this and check out sierra thanks for helping out a beginner backpacker.

Mind you this is only going to cost you $100 the first time… Then you’ll have everything you need and will be able to spend more money on food some other accommodations

As you were driving I thought, man, that looks like Colorado. Then you said that’s where you were. 🙂 I’m a Colorado native.

  11. @sakurabahfan on December 11, 2024 at 7:51 pm

No fancy cooking b-roll just cup-o-noodles. A man of the people.

  12. @Chimpmanboom on December 11, 2024 at 7:51 pm

Just got back from a fire and spending time in a fire camp, so camping out of my car and being able to go where I want to go with the loved ones is always a huge escape. Totally agree, camping is what you make it and the memories are what matter the most.

  15. @grumpyoldwizard on December 11, 2024 at 7:55 pm

Back in 1978 I was stationed in San Antonio, TX. One weekend I just got a urge to go to the coast and camp on the beach. I took off in my Jeep, with my wife, and we headed on out to Padre Island. When we got there we realized that we didn’t have any equipment…oops. We bought two inexpensive sleeping bags, went to the beach and zipped them up together. We spent the night under the stars with nature all around us (except for the other 30 people there). A patrol would slowly go around checking on people and shine lights out over the beach and "campers". Man, that was a cool time. We didn’t need money, just each other.
Thank you for this memory. I hadn’t thought about it for a long time. I don’t even remember the last time I just picked up and found out what’s out there.

  17. @lively_spirit_bbb on December 11, 2024 at 7:57 pm

That truck was only $100?! Damn where do I find that? Lol

  18. @tedjones112 on December 11, 2024 at 7:58 pm

anybody who drives a truck or van or suv – skip the tent and buy a real air matress(s)and inflate pump and bring sheets and blankets from home instead of sleeping bag, buy chairs and cooking supplies, rope etc..

  19. @mangasharvey2993 on December 11, 2024 at 7:59 pm

That opening took longer than the camping

  20. @XaozifiedShadow on December 11, 2024 at 8:01 pm

Those chairs are up to almost $9 now…still not a bad deal but for five bucks I felt bad not buying twenty lol.

  21. @SurvivalSkillsHub-w9r on December 11, 2024 at 8:02 pm

"The first time I went camping, I brought a tent, a cooler, and some blankets from home. It was an amazing experience! Sometimes, you just have to get out there and enjoy the moment!"

  22. @ImChancy on December 11, 2024 at 8:04 pm

    clickbait video. $1095 + poptart.

  23. @TysonCollins-sw2er on December 11, 2024 at 8:05 pm

    That is nice

  24. @kruzininla on December 11, 2024 at 8:07 pm

By the definition, I can go to the local junkyard and cram myself into a yugo. 😢

  25. @snarkypuppy6459 on December 11, 2024 at 8:08 pm

They make a USB rechargeable light and bug zapper combo for about 15 bucks or so and it’s actually great! 99% of our camping gear is from Wally World and honestly, it gets the job done. We don’t camp in extreme weather so the budget stuff works just fine.

  26. @DavidBlond-nk7xo on December 11, 2024 at 8:10 pm

I spent about $400.00 for living in the woods in TX being homeless All my stuff came from Walmart

    ❤the the👙absolutely gorgeous lady! 🔥🔥🔥🌷🌷🌷😘🥰😇

  28. @DanielA-nl9nv on December 11, 2024 at 8:13 pm

Excellent video; excellent point. I think the best advice I ever got was: don’t buy anything. just see what you have, rummage through your old stuff, or go to the Goodwill on dollar tag day. You don’t need a lot.

  29. @sakurabahfan on December 11, 2024 at 8:13 pm

Also you would have been under budget if you were allowed to make a fire.

  30. @onewheelhawaii on December 11, 2024 at 8:13 pm

    Great video!

  31. @GhostPanda10 on December 11, 2024 at 8:13 pm

How do you find trials that are good for 2wd and to add on to that how do you find trials that have camping spots

  32. @penhdog2207 on December 11, 2024 at 8:14 pm

I guess you guys call it a "camp stove". In Cambodia we call it a "stove".😂

  33. @chrissmith-no3bo on December 11, 2024 at 8:16 pm

I have that same stove and i love it. And lost my tent somewhere on rt 66. But i have a better one. Bigger. Plus my van is set up with hings from my apartment. So when i finally get everything together….trying put carrier on my van to carry my mobile wheel chair

  34. @brianholmes8966 on December 11, 2024 at 8:16 pm

  36. @johncaprar9169 on December 11, 2024 at 8:19 pm

Good video. Tks. I’m planning to buy a Kodiak Canvas Model 6098 but i think the lantern from Walmart will do. I’ll buy one. Tks.

  37. @DanielA-nl9nv on December 11, 2024 at 8:22 pm

Yo dude, don’t let anybody make you feel bad for car camping. Those assholes are probably making spoons in the woods… like f****** douchebags.

  38. @emilyroberts9493 on December 11, 2024 at 8:23 pm

    A tent is not a luxury⛺️🎉🎉🎉

  39. @snomanFPV306 on December 11, 2024 at 8:23 pm

Loved the video! Brought back memories of the first couple of times i camped. Those were the best times because of the cheap and bacic setup i had. You do not need alot to enjoy the outdoors. Another good cheap camp meal is mac and cheese and wieners. Still do that now yet! New sub too!😊

  40. @fabioqueiros1533 on December 11, 2024 at 8:24 pm

Amazing video 💯👌 You really loved tthe lamp😅

  41. @josephatnip2398 on December 11, 2024 at 8:25 pm

Teach you how to camp with eight bucks yep go get yourself up fifth of McCormick’s whiskey and then just pass out in a field somewhere I used to do it in high school all the time 🤣

  42. @Zenlife1132 on December 11, 2024 at 8:25 pm

Awesome ♡ I’m going camping 🏕 in October. Upstate NY. So beautiful 😍

  43. @Nuhissurvival on December 11, 2024 at 8:28 pm

    Nice🤩

  44. @michaelliebe5028 on December 11, 2024 at 8:28 pm

Don’t listen to those people. Camping is going to a campground in either a RV plus utilizing their tent areas as well. Overlanding is truck camping but without campground amenities and obviously more off the beaten path. Backpacking is not camping, bushcraft is not camping. I do all 3 and love all 3.

  45. @guadalupeskitchen3734 on December 11, 2024 at 8:28 pm

To hell with those orthodox campers. Camping is camping.

  46. @gregbayne6229 on December 11, 2024 at 8:29 pm

  48. @chrissmith-no3bo on December 11, 2024 at 8:32 pm

    Ozark trail stuff are decent

  49. @brianhand9928 on December 11, 2024 at 8:34 pm

All Walmart camping has cancer stickers, cast iron with lead. Even some of the medical kits had cancer causing stickers. Tents chairs reproductive and cancer stickers ozark or what ever is a absolute no!

  50. @theplaguedoctor_topic1067 on December 11, 2024 at 8:34 pm

I’m proof that you can start out cheap in camping and hiking and survival skills I started with only 120 dollars with only Walmart gear such as ozark trail and outdoor products now I over the two years I have a 1300 dollar setup that’s ultra compact if outdoors is your passion it can be made possible it’s not about the gear it’s about the journey and enjoying your time outdoors plus how you evolved overtime
